it's best to start on or near the weekend. for the first few days its good to isolate yourself from as much distraction as you can. don't watch tv!

here's a really good site on fasting. it's more on juice fasting opposed to the ultimate cleanse but same concept.

    http://www.freedomyou.com/fasting_bo..._Your_Fast.htm

i would join you but i finished a 10 day cleanse last month and i only do 2 at the most a year. the uc is wonderful for detoxing and you have such a greater appreciation for healthy raw foods afterwards. good luck!!!

Good Luck! I tried it a couple months ago. I got sick of the lemonade after about 3 days and broke my fast. Also, I didn't do a prefast or anything (I was eating cooked, but vegan, foods). It was my first time fasting and my addiction to cooked food got the better of me Although I AM doing a juice fast right now! I've been eating a lot of raw foods, so this fast hasn't been so bad so far :)

Anyway! I'll be fasting along with you, even though it's a different kind of fast!

I have been wanting to do a fast, but I don't know what the master cleanse is........

I have 2 friends that just paid something like $200 for some detox diet thing. They don't eat for a few days except for these drinks and take some pills,,, they are losing the weight, but it is so unhealthy.

So where do I find out about the MC??

I usually start out with google. Here's the search I used:

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...=Google+Search

Here's another link I enjoyed reading:
    http://therawfoodsite.com/mastercleanse.htm

    Random info off the internet:

    Master Cleanse:

2 tablespoons FRESH squeezed lemon or lime juice (approx. 1/2 lemon)
2 tablespoons genuine organic maple syrup, Grade B (the darker the better)*
1/10 teaspoon (a small pinch!) cayenne pepper, gradually increase (the more BTUs the better)
    300 - 500 ccm (10-14 oz) pure water

In a 300ccm (10-ounce) glass (to allow for 227ccm and mixing room): 2 tablespoons fresh (and organic, if possible) lemon or lime juice (absolutely no canned or frozen juice). 2 tablespoons real (and organic, if possible) grade B or C maple syrup. (Don't use Grade A maple syrup or maple-flavored syrup. They are over-refined, which means that they are mostly refined sugars and lack essential minerals.) A small pinch of cayenne pepper (to taste). Spring or purified water, between room temperature and medium hot (but not cold) – fill to 1/4 liter (8 oz). Mix all the ingredients by thoroughly stirring or shaking, and drink. Or, in two 1 liter bottles: Juice of 3 lemons, divided equally between the two bottles (about 85ccm or 3 oz per bottle) An equal quantity of grade B or C maple syrup in each bottle (about 85 ccm or 3 oz per bottle) A pinch of cayenne in each bottle Spring or purified water (fill bottles to the top) Mix all the ingredients by thoroughly shaking; then drink throughout the day. Use fresh lemons or limes only, never canned or frozen lemon juice. Use organic and vine ripened when possible. Also, mix your lemonade fresh just before drinking. Don't mix it up in the morning for the whole day. You can, however, squeeze your lemons in the morning and measure out the 2 tablespoons when needed.

    Enhance Your Elimination

This is a cleanse as opposed to a weight loss diet. So, you need to ensure you are eliminating the toxins that are being loosened in your system. Cravings, aches, pains, mental irritability and tiredness will turn on as your toxins are mobilized. To eliminate these unpleasant sensations, you need to be sure you have two, three, or more bowel movements a day.

Drink a laxative herb tea each evening. You can find it in your local health food store. I recommend senna tea blend with senna being about half of it by weight. (Senna is an herb that promotes bowel movement.) The kind I've bought warn you not to drink more than two cups per day.

Each morning on an empty stomach, add two teaspoons of non-iodized sea salt to a full quart of water. Do not use ordinary iodized salt as it will not work properly. Drink the entire quart of salt water first thing in the morning. "Chug" this — drink it as fast as possible. Within an hour several bowel movements will likely occur. (You'll need to be by a toilet for half an hour to an hour.) If you do not have several bowel movements, try a little more salt in the water the next day until it works.

Drink the herb laxative tea at night to loosen and the salt water each morning to wash it out. If you can't drink the salt water in the morning, drink the herb laxative tea at night and in the morning.
    Breaking Your Fast

Breaking a long fast is very, very important. You should ease your way back to solid food after one or two additional days of juices, orange or grapefruit. If you are going back to raw fruits and vegetables, you may do so on the afternoon of the second day.

If you have been a meat eater and/or milk products consumer, shift to cooked vegetable soup on the afternoon of the second day and a salad for dinner. Keep the lemonade drink as your breakfast drink after that. Of course, you would do better with the least amount of meat and no milk products as they are very productive of mucus and hinder digestion and absorption of nutrients.
    Detox Symptoms

Detoxifying literally means removing poisons from your body. Once these poisons are gone, you will feel energetic, vital, happy and healthy. It is the poisons that make us feel tired, mentally confused, irritable, unhappy, depressed and ill. Consequently you should look forward to detoxification.

Unfortunately, when the toxins are mobilized, they will bring about those unpleasant feelings and tempt you to quit the cleanse before you are through. So, you need to understand the symptoms of detoxification and ensure that you drink your laxative tea and salt water to stimulate elimination of those toxins.

My experience with the cleanse and with various people doing it has taught me that whatever symptom I experienced one day, it would be gone the next morning with my bowel movements. It is nevertheless helpful to know when you are detoxifying because it helps you to get through that symptom to know it will be gone tomorrow.

I have grouped the detox symptoms I and others have had into five groups:

    1. Cravings — I have only known one or two people to be hungry on this cleanse. Drinking more lemonade or water handles that. I have, however, observed that people on the cleanse crave what they are detoxifying. Proof that this is true is that the cravings usually go away the next morning with bowel movements. You can crave anything when detoxifying, but most likely you will experience cravings for the most toxic foods, such as pizza, hamburgers, barbeque ribs, etc.
    2. Tiredness — When your body fights toxins, whether from detoxifying or an infection, it diverts energy into healing and away from the energy you use to work and play. On my first 20 day cleanse, I was not tired except on the fifteenth day. The next morning, I experienced heat in my bowel movements, an indication that acidic toxins were being eliminated. I also lost all sense of tiredness.
    3. Irritability — This includes the desire to "just chew something solid."
    4. Physical aches, pains, nausea, vomiting, etc. — These are the most severe reactions and only occur where a person is severely toxic, only a small percentage of people experience these. Fortunately, these have gone away after only a day or two in every case I have heard about.
    5. Hot bowel movements — Your body wastes are acidic and when you eliminate the most toxic ones, they actually feel anywhere from warm to burning. This experience is very infrequent, but worth mentioning because hot bowel movements after a day of heavy detox symptoms will confirm that you just eliminated significant toxins.

I love the master cleanse! I have done it a handful of times, ranging from about 10 days all the way down to 1 day (a quick 'reset').

I would suggest that you make sure you have lots of things planned out to do. Go through those papers, clean your house, organize your computer, whatever. When you are fasting, you have to do something with the time you would normally spend dealing with food. That's a few extra hours a day!

If you live with someone, request that they don't eat in front of you. Even better, you go for a walk when they are eating or make them eat out. IT IS HARD to not eat. The first two are the hardest.. but then after day three or four you are constantly questioning -- is it time to break the fast or not? If someone is eating something right next to you, it makes that decision a lot harder to stick with the fast.

Drink as much of the MC as you can! You will need the water and electrolytes and even the sugar. Play with the balance to see what you like.. I found that I liked mine best with less maple and MORE pepper! And watch that pepper level! Some people are very sensitive to it and I had a friend do it with me and she still to this day can not touch that cayanne anymore.. (LOL) After the first day or so, you will start to crave the stuff! It is great..

I find that I am only tired for a day or so on the cleanse, but YMMV. Be sure to allow yourself to rest when you need to .. and walk and do some light exercise when you can -- it keeps the body moving and the toxins purging.

Also, watch out for the smell! Your partner/housemates might not want to be around you.. cleansing people just start to eminate a toxic smell.. LOL It is a good sign! The other symptoms that Druid posted are right on! If/When they come up, be sure to just allow yourself to move through them.. they are the steps to the goal!
My journal -- Comments -- 30 days at 100% down, what next?!

I'd like to join in on the fasting! I can't start until Monday though. Too much going on work wise for the next two days and I just know I'll break it. I want to do the 10 days at least. What's your plan?

Thanks! I've finished day three! Today was the worst so far, hopefully my body will get into gear soon! I really just need to do stuff to keep myself busy. Today, I got together some raw recipes and put them on index cards and organized them! Kept me occupied for an hour or so :) It's so weird sitting around and not eating, because that's usually what I would be doing! I have an appointment with 24 Hour Fitness on Monday(Free 2-week pass! Woo hoo!), so that'll keep me busy somewhat.

I'm starting the MC tomorrow! I've only ever made it to day 4, but I hoping to make it the full 10 days this time. I'd love to have a group to do it with!! I'll post tomorrow to let you know how it goes.

    Happy Fasting!

Joining you on 1.11 as a preparation for going raw.
My biggest challenge is my love for chocolate

my drive and expectation for doing this: regaining my eye sight (-8.5) and my hair colour (quite white already)

Argh! I had to break my fast after 5 days. I was feeling ultra-crummy and I figured it was detox and I was drinking a lot of water, but the water I was drinking was "purified" and had some weird stuff in it. After being on the fast for 4 days I began tasting what was in it and it made me sick to my stomach. And because of (insert long story) I couldn't get new water or fruits to juice. *sigh* I'm going to try it again really soon, though. I really love the light feeling fasting gives me! I hope all of you are doing great on your fasts! How are they going?

    Default Mc

I am starting the cleanse today. My motivation - I have a physical for life insurance coming up in 14 days and I want to clean my body out for that. I know...maybe not the best reason but any excuse will do to jumpstart me.

I am working towards a raw food lifestyle and about 20% of my daily food consumption is raw but I want to see that increase to at least 75% daily. Also, I have a very bad habit of drinking wine (white or red), Ben and Jerry's ice cream (Vanilla Caramel Fudge), soda and fast food so eventhough I work out daily I am filling my body with bad things!

I am looking towards this master cleanse to help w/ the cravings for those things not good for me. I am currently 135 lbs looking to get down to at least 125 lbs.
