Default Carrot / Apple / Yam Dog "Cookies"

I'm not sure how many of you with dogs have heard of "Sam's Yams" .... they are dehydrated yam treats - sliced thin and dehydrated.

I made some of these for my dogs a while ago and they turned out well - but they're a little hard to manage not getting so dehydrated that they break into pieces instead of remaining chewy (like a vegetarian rawhide).

Well, a couple weeks ago we went to a big dog event and there was a vendor there selling Sam's Yam's "Cookies" - Just 3 ingredients - Yams, Apples & Carrots.

So I decided to make them myself!!!

Just put Apples, Yams & Carrots in the food processor using the "S" blade". I did about equal quantities of each ingredients. I found it easier to put in each ingredient separately, then transfer to a large bowl once each was processed and manually mix together.

Then I used my small cookie scoop that I use for macaroons (mine is 4 mm), and I scooped out the mixture onto teflex sheets. Once I filled the tray, I flattened the mixture a bit so it was a thick cookie.

I dehydrate the first hour or so at 145 just to get the moisture out, then move to 105 for the remainder of the time (turn them over and take them off the teflext sheet when they will transfer off cleanly without sticking ... maybe 12 hours or so). The first batch I made was dehydrating for about 24 hours and turned out great - very close to the cookies my sister bought.

So just thought I'd share how you can indulge in raw with your dogs. My dogs LOVE them - they even have sensitive tummies and have no issues with these treats at all & I feel good knowing they are eating quality treats that I made them with pure organic ingredients.
