    Default pregnant and needing help

I was high raw before I got pregnant and then the last week in August we went to Washing DC on a business trip and I couldn't find many raw foods (to be honest I didn't look too hard, the resturants there are so yummy). So anyways, you know how difficult it is once you fall off the raw wagon to get back on. I started as soon as we got home, but then morning sickness came and I am lucky to keep mild cooked foods down. I am about 12 weeks and finally got a salad down yesterday.

I know the reason I am feeling so sick is because I am eating so many cooked foods. The raw food support group I belong to (hi Sharon!) recently posted pictures of a potluck that I was really hoping to goto but was vomitting all day and couldn't go. It got me really excited about eating raw again.

So the question is: HOW? The thought of green smoothies or fruit smoothies make me feel even worse. Unfortunateely that is how I got most of the flax and other stuff into my diet. Sharon has a recipe for some rawsome tasty crackers so I am going to try to make those. Any other ideas? I think I can stomach some cut up fruit, but fruit season is over. And I am pretty picky about the fruti I like (slowly expanding my fruit horizons through smoothies).

Anyways, any words of wisdom (or even encouragement at this point) are so appreciated.
    Blessings, Paula

Sorry, I can only offer you encouragement. When I was pregnant with my twins 15 years ago, I couldn't stand the thought of pizza (which normally was my main staple!). So that wasn't a problem...

I was going to suggest you try to get down a green smoothie, till I saw you aren't digging that. But what if you had someone else prepare it? Just keep it simple, only a couple of ingredients, like my favorite, spinach and oranges. Then just try to take a sip, and see what happens.

Oh, and not that I have to tell you this... but of course, think about all the nutrients that your precious baby gets through raw foods. Are the nutrients in cooked food "good enough" for your baby? Well, of course not!

Do you like ice cream there are some very yummy raw ice cream creations that have been posted on this board. Click the banana for some recipes. I also found I enjoyed apples with almond butter and a "fruit parfait"

I think raw "treats" like cookies, banana ice cream or brownies are a great idea. When I was pregnant with my twins I couldn't look at fruits or veggies, only pizza and hot fudge! But maybe the raw gooey treats will help you.

Also, think hard about what sounds good to you. Apples are in season and they are so, so, so sweet and good. Sweet potatoes? Think hard and maybe something will strike you and you can start that way.

    Good luck.

    Paula~~

I really do feel for your situation. Morning sickness is so hard to get through and when nothing sounds good it is hard to eat...

Now, saying that and hopefully someday soon having to heed my own advice Try to think of the health of your baby. You KNOW that you need to be eating for the sake of the baby... Just tell yourself that you must eat...

Morning sickness can seem to affect our not wanting many strange things that normally we would love to eat,, won't list them, but you know all the greasy, cheesy foods,,,,,, yet when we are SAD we force ourselves to eat knowing that we have to eat something.... Well instead of the SAD foods, force yourself to eat raw foods. What ever it is that you can swallow.. maybe today it is bananas and tomorrow it is salad... just take it day by day. Make some dessert foods that you can easily eat.

Poor girl,,,, 1st trimester is so hard....but you are so blessed!!!!!! How many children do you have? Just keep in mind that you will have such a great energetic pregnancy if you stick to raw.............. And you will be such an encouragment to those who are hoping to have a raw pregnancy...

    Hi Paula,

Congratulations on your pregnancy I remember you from your board!!! If I remember right you have a few other children?

I wish I had a suggestion for your morning sickness. I was so blessed to not have one day of morning sickness with either child. If I had it with my first, I would have never had my 2nd!

I don't know if you believe in supplements or not, if you do, I would check with a holistic or natuopath doctor (or go to your health store and check out their herb/vitamin book - the big book that they have on display) as they may have some ideas of something you could take (for some reason I keep thinking there's a "B" vitamin that supposely helps) to help easy the sickness so that you can get some healthy raw foods down you to benefit you and your baby.

I really don't have any ideas of certain foods that will help, but I just wanted to say congratulations!!!

I've found pears to be pleasant and non-offensive after a vomiting all day ;)

Yes, I have three other children. No morning sickness with the first, with the second it was the entire pregnancy (I ate a Gardenburger that had Sulfate in it - which I am deadly allergic to, remember their big recall?? that stupid burger set me throwing up the entire pregnancy oh how I wish I had been raw at the time), and with the third i took Zofran and that helped. With this one, nothing is helping. I am finally able to drink water without gagging and am hoping that by dirnking lots of water it will help remove some of these toxins i am putting in my body.

You are right about just eating more raw foods. Some of the soup recipes I have seen here have been pretty encouraging. That tomato soup recpie is yummy! And I totally forgot about Yanni's chili recipe (I loved that last winter season). I have been burned out on apples (as when I first started feeling sick it was the only fruit I could stomach). Actually craving cantaloupe right now (but I always getting burning numb lips after eating it).

B6 is supposed to help, and I have a total b sublingual liquid i have been taking, but am not sure it is doing much help. And I am thankful all the cooked foods I have been eating have been somewhat healthy (in the fact they are not greasy or cheesy - mostly sandwhiches). But you are so right about the nutritional value I am giving this baby. Not as healthy as raw.

Thanks so much for the encouragement (and reminder) to just do it and eat more raw foods.

(And thanks for the congrats Helen! good to see you again.)

    hi paula!

maybe try more like a mono diet? When I was pregnant with Chanah, I could not stomach green smoothies or juices or salads for that matter! I just ate a lot of whole fruits and mono meals. That is just what my body wanted. I know it is not really fruit season right now, but maybe bananas, or apples, or pears, or oranges - i guess that is pretty much it. well cantaloupes too. Maybe try to find something that you can stomach that way and just eat that until you are full?

What kind of sandwiches are you eating currently? Maybe you could do some on dehydrated crackers?

I am afraid that I didn't have any morning sickness with Chanah and very little with my son. Hang in there! Hopefully the sickness will pass soon :)

    Take care of yourself!!

Hi Paula, you could try drinking ginger tea. It isn't raw, but if it settles your tummy, then you might be able to eat some good raw stuff. Just take a piece of ginger(about thumb size) sliced thin, pour in boiling water, let it steep for about 10 minutes. Then add some lemon juice and sweetner to taste. it really is good for nausea. Hopefully then you can tolerate some better foods. Congrats on the new baby and good luck. Blessings Earthmama

I've never been pregnant but when I'm nausiated I take Honey Ginger Tonic by New Chapter. It is amazing! The directions say to take a tsp, but I take 2-3 tbsps and it knocks it out completely.

Congratulations and good luck with the a.m. sickies!
