Default Whole (unhulled) Buckwheat - What to do?

    Hello,

I make my own bread and usually sprout some grains to add to it.
I bought whole buckwheat by mistake instead of the kernels. Anyway I thought I would sprout them for greens instead but now I have read lots of info and stories regarding the toxicity of buckwheat greens. Apparently the kernel sprouts are safe but the greens are not.

Anyway I know it is probably alright to consume small amounts but I don't want to take risks with my current health condition. So is there anything I can do with this whole buckwheat!!?

    Thanks!

Just sprout it a little if you are worried about the greens or green it up in very small amounts or feed the buckwheat to the birds!

Sprouting, I did the exact same thing.....meant to buy the un-hulled but they came with the hulls still on them. So far I have sprouted some, but I must admit, I'm not big on sprouts.

Will be interested to get some ideas. I still have a lot of un-hulled buckwheat left.

They are excellent for conditioning your soil, and considered one of the "green manures"

Before, after, or in between crops scatter them about and water well. Turn under one week after flowering. About 6 weeks total and adds calcium, phosphorus and potassium to the soil for the next crop...
