    Question Sprouting Buckwheat

So I am finally posting in the right forum. :-/ LOL I just sprouted my first batch of quinao, and wanted to try Buckwheat as well. I've tried Buckwheat previously, but couldn't get it to go. I soaked it overnight, but then I read on sproutpeople that you should only soak for 20-30 minutes or they might not sprout. Well. . . this time I only soaked 30 minutes, and rinsed in 12 hours, and they are still sitting there. . . No sprouts. Now I did have the groats in the freezer. Is that why they aren't sprouting??

That sure seems odd. Are you sure you got raw buckwheat?

I have never had a problem. I order mine from Sproutpeople

I usually soak 1/2 an hour, then rinse really well (several times), drain. Sit 8-12 hours and then usually rinse and repeat. Mine turn out great with little tails (the longer I wait, the longer the tails).

I hope you can figure it out.

I leave mine to soak over night and drain in the morning, rinse and leave to drain. When I get back there are little points coming out of the grain.

My buckwheat isn't labeled raw but it sprouts 90-100% so that's raw enough for me.

Maybe buckwheat doesn't like being frozen or maybe the batch you have has been treated in someway or is stale.

I would say that buckwheat is one of the easiest to do and it's so quick. It does go slimy but that is natural. Are you rinsing the buckwheat well and regularly?

It is raw. . . I ordered the Bob's Red Mill. I rinsed REALLY well after the soaking and after 12 hours because I read that if the sticky coating doesn't get rinsed off well enough, they won't sprout. I left them sprouting at home while I've been at work, so maybe I'll be surprised when I get home!

I don't think I've gotten sprouts after just 12 hours. I'm another one that soaks buckwheat overnight - always have and never have had any problems sprouting it. *Ü*

Yay! I think I finally have teeny tiny sprouts. Either that or it's just wishful thinking. LOL :-/ If they are sprouts, how long do you normally let them get before you refrigerate?

    Exciting, isn't it!

I let buckwheat sprouts get almost as long as the buckwheat itself. I sprout and dehydrate because I use my buckwheat for granola and such. I've never tried it 'freshly sprouted.

My husband likes to have a bowl of 'buckwheaties' with nut milk. *Ü*
