Default help - my kale has died

Oh dang - i bought this little guy and he was happy in a tiny tube starter pot on the window sill for weeks.
Seemed fine after i planted him out although not growing well enough to harvest any leaves ( clay soil with generous helping of mushroom compost. We've had the first few frosty mornings (autumn) Now it's dead! I thought kale was a good winter plant. The thyme, stevia and pinapple sage nearby are ok

I took this off the internet so do not understand why your is different

Kale prefers cool temperatures and will be sweetened by a touch of frost. Optimal soil temperature is 60 - 65 degrees F. Hot weather turns kale bitter.

Baffling. I bult hoop houses for mine during the harsh winter and it overwintered nicely --I had fresh kale all winter. ---Here in Ohio, we have some pretty harsh winters too.

Something with the soil? Maybe too acidic or ...man, I don't know!!!

maybe club root? Did you look at the roots? Also maybe it was pot bound before planting out in which case that might cause a decline and the frost would perhaps finish it off.

Did you set it out direct after the sunny window sill? Hardening off is more important than some realise.

Then there are cats peeing. Yuk!

It could have been many things or just a random act of dying kale!
