    Smile Hello everyone!

I just found this forum this morning and am thrilled with the success stories and helpful suggestions on living raw.

I have been vegan for about 20 years, but have started to move more toward the idea of eating raw. The biggest hurdle for me would be surrendering grains. My husband and I have given up gluten containing grains for one month now, but stopping grains completely? ... we'll see.

I am looking forward to learning more and making moves in a healthier lifestyle.

Welcome. If you've given up gluten grains, you are well on your way. I use oat and rye flour (found it available raw from a small company in MN) and coconut flour when I unbake. Also almond and other nut 'flours' work well in uncooking. You may find you don't miss grains as much as you think when RAW.

Many like buckwheat although it isn't one of my favorites. If you do, it works well in granolas and such.

I think you are probably right about that, K8sl8. We may not miss the grains as much as we think.

During this past month we have been wrapping coleslaw and other vegs in young greens or lettuce leaves to take the place of tortillas made with wheat. We are really enjoying that!

I guess it's just a matter of experimenting with new ideas and overcoming our limited mindset.

Quinoa is something that a lot of people use.
You can make wraps using lots of ingredients and use a little ground flax seeds to bind them together.
May fave would be tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes and flax. dehydrate it.
Onion bread is also very good for wraps.
Having said that I feel that the way that you are doing it is the healthiest way so stick with it if you can.
There is sufficient in the world for man's need, but not for his greed.

Thank you for the suggestions Sport.

With the quinoa for wraps, do I grind it to flour first?
I can see that tomatoes and onions and such would be really tasty! I'll have to give it a try! I don't have any flax seeds at the moment. Is there something else that also works as a binder?

K8sl8, I have used the oat flour (not exactly REALLY raw) in cookies and such, as well as some coconut, but I haven't tried the nut flours, buckwheat or rye. I really never thought that these other grains could be used raw. Hmmm... more experiments!

I think I might join the May challenge today and see how long I can go on raw.

    Thank you for the encouragement!

If you want 'really raw' oats, sunshineflourmill.com has grains not heated over 110 degrees. They will flake it or you can buy it whole. That's where I also get the rye and oat mix.

Thank you. I will consider them.

I tried some tortillas yesterday with quinoa and sunflower seeds with a tomato, blended and dehydrated. They turned out pretty nice.

    I am enjoying this!
