    Dan,

Sorry for delay in replying--did not see your question. Gold bar is a yellow squash. Same shape as zucchini but a pretty bright yellow skin and milder flavor. Usually pricy at the HFS so I wanted to grow it myself this year. Will advise how it comes out. I think Raw Food Real World uses it in several recieps.

We're a really busy family and super disorganized (we're working on it), so we found that, for us, a big garden was a big time-vampire and all we could seem to grow in abnundance were big weeds. Word to the wise: do NOT use straw as mulch between rows. This results in lots of unwanted wheat. This is not set in stone yet, but I am hoping to grow some of the following:
    • Tomatoes (some grow "wild" from discarded rotten tomatoes from seasons past)
    • Sweet Potato
    • Green and Yellow Beans
    • Lettuce
    • Spinach
    • Carrots
    • Broccoli (although we get nasty little green worms in them that are EXACTLY the same colour as the broccoli...you have to go hunting for them and they're not fun to bite into)
    • Beets
    • Rutabaga
    • Swiss Chard
    • Table/Wine Grapes
    • Zucchini
    • Butternut and Pepper Squash
    • Watermelon
    • Cucumbers
    • Hot Peppers

    HERBS:
    • Basil (a few varieties)
    • Rosemary
    • Thyme
    • Sage
    • Peppermint
    • Spearmint
    • Bergamot
    • Catnip
    • Echinacea
    • Lemon Balm
    • Stevia

I'd also like to plant a few fruit trees this year. It'll be a few years before anything comes of them, but I'd love to have the beginnings of an orchard: cherries, apples, pears, maybe peaches and plums? We have wild raspberries on the property and TONS of wild grapes in the area. Although it's not raw, the wild grapes make a phenomenal jelly. I might try them in a fruit wine this year.

    Default Fun Thread!!

So cool what everyones planting. Understand the first timers joy as Im still learning.I said the same thing "why havent I done this before" lol
I started small for the first time last year in containers that we hung around our porch. We did okay, they all grew but were miniture. This year we decided to try a small garden in the ground next to our home.We have mostly sand & clay soil,we added some topsoil an per suggestion have used plant food this time.I still have some in buckets an stuff, and wow that plant food seems to have been the missing ingredient.Third times a charm finally have kale growing....I have to travel 45 min away to get kale so Im super happy bout this

We planted a small variety just to see if we could do it :)

    4 Cherry tom's

1 big Tom (going to add 2 more of these can never have enough tom's. I paid 6 dollars last night for 4 small ones)cant wait to eat my own an save money

    4 of each-Banana Peppers-Red Peppers-Cayenne Peppers

    4 Zuccini Plants

    Herbs-Purple Basil-Reg Basil-Lemon Grass-Oregeno-Rosmary-(Cilantro <-not doin so well) Mint-Spearmint..Going to add Dill & Chives soon

Cucumbers-Okay we kinda went crazy we these lol..We planted 16 plants because no matter how many time we have tried we always get lil shrimpy cucumbers no matter how long we leave them on(maybe plant food?)lol
Well they are commin up quick,I have high hopes for them.I want them to grow so big I have nightmares haha just kiddin

    Greens-Spinach-Fancy Lettuce-Bib Lettuce-Red Lettuce-Korobi(im spelling that wrong)-an KALE!!!

Im going to research some but I have One Question to anyone that may know, are plant foods like Miracle Grow toxic? Are there organic options or Diy stuff I can make?

Good luck with that frost! I'll be pulling for ya! What are stevia plants like? I don't know much about them.
I tried one stevia plant last year ... it branched out and got really tall. I didn't know that I should have pinched it back so it spread out. So, this year I'll pinch the plants back so they bush more ... and cut them and hang to dry just as they blossom. The leaves are really sweet "as is".

There was so trouble with the frost --- everything survived -- some are a little peaked, but all is well. Even have a few teeny tiny tomatoes set already. We've had some more cold rainy weather ... but is starting to get warmer and more summerlike. So things should start taking off!
    Cheers
    Terry

I bought a "Tumbling Tom" tomato plant today; it's in a hanging basket and is a trailing variety of cherry tomato. Should work perfectly in my mobile lifestyle! Can't wait!!

It's been a cool wet spring and I only got my vegetable garden planted this last weekend. Very late for me even for our northern climates. But with our long days things grow fast. Here is my garden map:

That's impressive ... any chance you could resize it a bit please? It's made my screen go "wide-mouthed-toad"!
