    Default new to Sprouting

I'm just after a good lift of seeds and nuts i need to buy in order to sprout. I've been told to get watermelon seeds for my eyes, but what other nuts and seeds can i buy?

I already got a few jars and a large germinator.

My favorite sprouts are a 50-50 combination of alfalfa and clover sprouts. *Ü*

Can all seeds and nuts sprout? I really don't understand. What is the difference between sprouting and growing in the garden?

    Question what's up with sprouts?

    Hi there,

I have been hearing a lot about sprouting and adding sprouts to raw diets. Does anyone have some basic information to nutritional value, health benefits, and the how-to's of sprouting? Any personal experience knowledge or on-line links would be great!

I'm not sure about your question James.

Sprouting is simply taking seed (say alfalfa and clover that I mentioned in my post above), soaking them in filtered water overnight, draining & rinsing them - and in about 4-5 days they will sprout and you can use them on salads, sandwiches and such. There's more to it than that, but that's it in a nutshell.

If I were to plant the same seeds in the garden (or field in this case) - then they would grow into alfalfa and clover plants, typically harvested to feed farm animals.

A good site on sprouting is SproutPeople.

Are you wanting to sprout plants to plant in your garden? *Ü*

Lots of info available at sproutpeople.org.

I sprout all kinds of things--wheat, rye, barley, lentils of all shapes and colors, oats, nuts, cabbage, radishes, sunflower seeds, and the usual salad sprouts.

Nuts and seeds don't really sprout (at least in my experience) but they get little "nubs" where the sprout would grow. If they sprouted.

ETA: I mean sunflower and pumpkin seeds don't sprout. Of course lots of seeds sprout.

HI Emiliana ~ My sunflower seeds sprout like crazy - I always sprout them, keeping a close eye on them so their tail doesn't get too long and then dehydrate them to have them ready to go for a recipe.

I've never gotten pumpkin seeds to sprout though. I soak them overnight and then dehydrate. *Ü*

I have read the SproutPeople site for info. I bought the Easy Sprouter from them. I have sprouted alflafa, sunflower, and several seed mixes and its pretty easy. Basically rinse and drain several times a day.

I don't eat a lot of salads or wraps and my sprouts would just waste away. I need to get back to sprouting. They're very nutritious and an inexpensive food source.
