Default Raw Vegan Recipes For Small Pets

Hi there, I have brought up my rats on raw vegan food. They do very well on it and enjoy their raw food immensely. I am so glad to see lots of people here feeding their pets raw food, as animals do in the wild. If you are a raw vegan yourself, it makes it a lot easier to feed your pet this way too.

I have written an article on why I feed raw vegan to my rats if anyone would like to view it. Simply google 'Raw Vegan Pet Rats'.

And I also have a website where I have a Raw Vegan/Vegetarian Recipe Book For Fancy Rats. It's mainly vegan, I have to say vegetarian because I use bee pollen and honey in a couple of the recipes! Although I created the recipes for my rats, many of them can be used/adapted for cats and dogs and other pets.

This may be suitable for rats as they eat anything (in the wild), so I will not comment on that.

Dogs and cats are not vegan OR vegetarian in the wild. RAW is one thing and is great for your pet... vegan is another when talking about other small animals. A simple look at tearing teeth, instead of grinding teeth can tell you what animals are designed to eat meat. (We humans grind up our veggies really well!!)

That being said, pet/companion animals very often love some of the veggies. In our veterinary practice lettuce was often recommended as a "treat" after an insulin shot fordogs.

NOT trying to start yet another debate on this subject; just stating the opposing side because there are so many newbies on the forum.

I agree that perhaps cats have evolved to eat meat and for dogs, probably some meat would be enjoyed but they can also eat other types of food as well. As you say, they have the teeth for it. RE: rats, they also have the teeth for eating flesh in the wild. However, they are also omnivores and as a vegan myself, I did not fancy a)supporting the animal cruelty that goes on in the meat trade for food and b) did not personally want to handle meat c)rats can do very well on a vegan diet. Also, the raw vegan I feed covers their needs nutritionally speaking. So, for me, they're the obvious companion pets for me and the fact that they can also eat a huge variety of other non fleshy food too, is a great bonus.
