Default red beet juice that i made today in vitamix

2 organic red beets, 2 organic green apples, 2" ginger root, 2 cups organic black tea unsweetened. I strained it after and save the leftover pulp to add to other smoothies. I then add to fridge and drink during the week. Enjoy!

may i ask... why you would add black tea to your juice? and your juice is probably good for a day, maybe two before nutritionally it's just sugar... so best to drink it the same day you make it.

well instead of adding water to everything i add the tea. Its from a local company and its pure tea unsweetened and has nothing in it.

Default Adding tea here may be something to avoid

I read this recipe and registered in order to furnish some information that may help some, OP in particular:

You need to be careful with tea consumption when drinking in conjunction with certain other foods. Here's why.. tea contains certain tannins that chelate (bond with) non-heme iron. Non-heme iron is that which is found in plant sources, heme iron being from meat sources. Heme iron is much more readily absorbed by our bodies than non-heme iron. So as raw foodies, or just vegetarians/vegans, we're already at a slight disadvantage in the iron absorption game. Now, beets are actually a great source of non-heme iron, very rich in the mineral. But when you're taking in the iron rich beet juice with tea, the tannins in the tea are bonding with the valuable iron mineral content making it indigestible.

There are some ways to combat this effect. The easiest and most obvious way would be to stop using tea in this particular juice. Another way is to increase the Vitamin C content of your juice. Vitamin C aids in the absorption of iron and adding some might allow you to get away with keeping the tea in this juice and still getting all or most of the benefits possible from the beet juice. The apples you include do contain some Vitamin C, so that's a step in the right direction.

I figured since you put forth the effort to create a healthy treat such as this, you might as well get all the goodness you can from it. Hope this information helps someone.

    Cheers,

    Jesse

I love adding small bits of beet to my green juice, but I find I'm very sensitive to it. Beet juice is strong! If I add too much, I may feel nauseated. I'm hoping to work my way up gradually to adding more beet because I do like how it tastes.

Default Just discovered beet juice too!

The beets were beautiful at the market this week so I bought some, juiced them with their tops (only half of the beet) about 2-3 inches of ginger, an organic apple and a large lemon. WOW! Amazing!

Loved the taste. Richer than regular green juices. So glad I just planted a row of beets. Will be juicing them every day as long as I have them.

Have also read they are a very good liver cleanser.
