What a little cutie she is and glad to hear she is on raw. If you get some Rose Geranium (sometimes just labeled Geranium) essential oil at hfs and put approx 10 drops in a 4oz spray bottle, add a 1/2 tsp of vodka to disperse the oil, fill with distilled water and spritz on daily. You can also make a spray for yourself by putting 50 drops in an 8oz bottle as above. Dogs have a keen sense of smell so don't put the stronger version on them. Also never use essential oils on cats :) QUOTE=KaleMama;
It's that time of year again... TICKS! So my beautiful little Pomeranian had one on her ear last night. I have been looking around for Natural, non-toxic tick repellents. What do you use? I have seen Herbal collars for fleas but nothing for Ticks? Any suggestions? For now, we're back to shaving her down and inspecting her frequently after walks. She is on the BARF diet and is nice and healthy!

Thank you both for your advice! I will definitely look into that. She is getting her summer cut on Sunday and we plan on keeping it that way for the rest of the year.
Thank you! Thank you!

Here's what I do: Boil 2 cups of water with a tbl dried rosemary and a tbl dried mint and tsp apple cider vinegar. Boil at a rolling boil for 3 minutes. Take pot off stove and steep for 3 to 4 minutes. Strain all the mint and rosemary into a large bowl to cool and add 2 cups of cold water and 1tsp of apple cider vinegar. You can now add some drops of citronella, eucalyptus, peppermint and a little atlas cedarwood extracts. Shake well and fill a spray bottle. DO NOT USE ON CATS!
I also use this for a an in between bath spray. It deodorizes my dogs, shines their coats and repels fleas, ticks and flies. In the summer or any hot weather, I spray this on them before they go outside. Rub into fur. :) Smells minty fresh!

Great to see all these recipes. We had some tablets for a while that were supposed to help. I believe they had brewers yeast and garlic. You would need to make sure they are sized appropriately for your dog, as too much garlic is dangerous.
Whenever exposing your pet to an essential oil, give them an opportunity to smell/investigate it indirectly. Because their noses are so sensitive, letting them take a sniff from the bottle, as we might do, can terrify them because of the strength.

Springtime has garlic tablets that some people I know use - they use it more for fleas than ticks though:

Also - you will probably think this is a bit crazy, but I know people who put this body suit on their dogs before going out in the woods - if you are hiking or something, it'd help limit the areas where they might get ticks:

If you do want to purchase get Keys RediCare http://www.keys-soap.com/xcart41/pro...5&cat=3&page=1 hit the button for use on dogs. I do keep this on hand and I like the ingredients better than any other product plus can be purchased at alot of natural food stores (at least here in MD). In fact I love their products, their sunscreen is the best of all the natural ones and their products are ok with EWG.
