    Are you anywhere near Ames?

Joanna Steven is there, you might want to contact her through her blog. There's also meetup.com to find folks in your area.

Maybe someone here will speak up too. :)

Great! She's a sweet heart and might be well-connected in the area too. :)

If you are ever in Des Moines, there is a great little semi-raw food cafe in West Des Moines called Fresh Market Cafe run by Keri Rush. She's a dear. You can get smoothies and little to go packs of seaweed to snack on, and several other "treats" there. She's famous for putting wheat grass center stage here in Des Moines. She grows her own and even sells it to Hy-Vee and some of the Health food stores here I think.

Also, another friend of mine just opened up the Green Grounds Cafe in Valley Junction, West Des Moines. It's not all raw, but she does do most things organic (even though it's not listed as oraganic on the menu you just have to ask). It's nice for me just to be able to go out and have an organic salad somewhere while I'm out like normal people. You might want to bring your own dressing. :0)

What great info! Thanks so much! When I'm in Des Moines next, I will check those places out. I was just lamenting/feeling sorry for myself about the lack of 'people' with similiar interests in health/raw food. This pumps me up. Speaking of, have you ever been to Gong Fu Tea?

    Default Raw in Iowa...

I live in Ames and there are some raw-ies here but hard to find. Robyn Moyer in Ankeny is a raw chef; I'm not sure what she's doing now but she had RawforIAlive.com. Also, as mentioned already, Fresh Cafe & Market in DSM is awesome but limited hours. You can also find these guys at the farmers market each Saturday. I tried to have a raw food potluck in Ames a couple years ago and no takers . Someday!!

Default Iowa -- land of meat and dairy

I was in Iowa on business a lot in the Fall of 2010, mostly Dubuque. There was nothing raw, nothing really even vegan. (They had a salad, sounded vegan, then it turns out the dressing was infused with blue cheese.) I ate a lot of organic carrots and cucumbers bought at HyVee, luckily they at least had that.

If I go again, I will write and see if there's anyone who can help, or might do a potluck. I see at least a few of you on here so you must have some way to eat!

    :-)

ps, The people in Iowa were wonderful.

Wow I'm super excited that there are other raw-foodists in Iowa! I'm live in South-East Iowa and have never met another raw eater (unless I didn't realize it) I know there are people and occasional raw potlucks in Fairfield Iowa but not extremely often.

I'd totally be willing to meet up with you to eat raw food!

Smile Raw food eater in Iowa!

I live in Des Moines and definitely wouldn’t mind getting together with others who are interested in raw foods! I’m not 100% raw right now but I’ve dabbled in it before and hope to get back there soon! There’s also a raw food Des Moines meetup group: http://www.meetup.com/RawFoodDSM/
