    Default dehydrating nuts

Is there a chart for the amount of time to dehydrate nuts? I've seen lots on soaking them and that they should be dehydrated if not using right away, but not for how long.

I have soaked walnuts and almonds today and they are now in the dehydrator. I've been dehydrating them for 1 1/2 days in the past, but was wondering if that was too long? For each kind of nut.

Also, how long do they keep after dehydrating? Do I still have to keep them in the freezer or fridge?

it really depends on your climate. i live in beautiful british columbia canada where the humidity is high year round. so i have to dehydrate things a looooooooong time.

best rule IMO... reach in and try one. if it's good... then it's good. if it isn't... then keep dehydrating!

i freeze/fridge all my nuts. in the fridge when i'm going to use them soon. in the freezer for my bulk buy items.

    Default dehydrating

thanks for the quick reply, I've just got a bulk order of nuts, walnuts, almonds and pecans and trying to get them dehydrated as fast as I can.

Kinda of an oxymoron, "dehydrating as fast as I can" hey?

I suppose I could shove them into the freezer too.

and be sure to taste the first batch... cause honestly... i don't like the taste of soaked and then dehydrated nuts at all.

so make sure you are going to like them before you do them all!

I keep my nuts/seeds in the fridge or freezer too - I only take out what I want to eat - then I soak/dehydrate them - instead of soaking/dehydrating say 5# at a time.....I LOVE soaked/dehydrated almonds - they are really "light" tasting - better than roasted from the store anyday!!

I love reading how everyone stores and uses their raw food items!

I also store all my nuts and seeds in the freezer. I soak and dehydrate a lot at a time (enough to typically fill 2-4 one quart jars) and then I store those in the freezer as well. I do keep out some sunflower and pumpkin seeds in the fridge as my husband snacks on those daily. *Ü*

I love having a 'staple stash' on hand - I learned that from Rene Oswald. She also taught me how to sprout sunflower seeds before dehydrating them, at the time I'd never done that step.

I eat pecans and walnuts. Both I soak for approx 7 hours, and then dry at 150 degrees for approx 2 hours...but I do taste test along the way, and when they have that flavor without the moisture, I consider them basically dehydrated.:)

Oops ! I have since learned (as I am new at this) that anything over about 115 degrees is considered cooked and therefore it would appear that the way I dry out my pecans and walnuts are considered cooked......guess I gotta save my money for a dehydrator....wondered why it didnt take long to get them dried out ??...
