DC - Raw Restaurants
Hello Everyone!
I'm just discovering new Raw restaurants in the DC/MD. I visited two restaurants in the past two weeks.
1. Senbeb Cafe
6224 3rd St NW
Washington, DC 20050
(202) 249-0917
All organic, fair trade and part of a co-op know for it's Raw meals and soul food. Amazing food and everyone there is so friendly. On Sunday we had a Hemp/cashew burger, collards and wild rice with a bit of "fire sauce" AMAZING!!!! OH and Raspberry Cheesecake. ;)They have a "Raw Plate" for $13.00 that consists of a main course and two sides. They have a couple of Raw dishes and rotate each day. The chef simply comes in and says "I want to make this today" and that is what they have so you never know. I think that is wonderful!
2. Cafe Green
17th Street NW Washington, DC 20036
Nearest Metro: Dupont Circle (North)
Also all organic and fair trade. This is an organic/Vegan restaurant with a couple of Raw dishes. They had a lot of raw desserts (yummmmmmmm) when we get two weeks ago. Unfortunately, they were out of 3/4 raw meals we were looking to have. DO NOT go on a Sunday between 3-5pm since they have a "light" menu with not too many raw dishes. They're open pretty late (11pm) compared to Senbeb (8pm) and Java Green (7pm) We had a Seaweed cold soup and there chocolate cheesecake (delish!).
Java Green (Will go sometime in the next couple of weeks)
775-8899 18th St. btw. K + L St.
Nearest Metro: Farragut West (18th St.)
Since their hours are Mon-Fri until 7pm with work, it has been a little tough making it there but we definitely will soon. I will let you know how it goes!
Does anyone know of any other organic, Raw Restaurants in the DC/MD/VA area? If so, please share!
Thanks!!!

I live in DC; the 3 restaurants you mentioned are the ones I go to most often.
There is another:
Elizabeth's Gone Raw. It is close to McPherson Square and it looks terrific; I have not yet been there.
There is this cafe:
Everlasting Life
2928 Georgia Ave NW, Washington D.C. 20001
Phone: 202-232-1700
You might want to call them for their hours of operation. Not everything is raw, but they do have some raw offerings.
You mentioned Senbeb. It is close to where I live. Chef Khepra is great, and has a website called Mojo Juice Club. He sponsors raw food prep classes, cleanses, and yoga classes. He is a wonderful asset to the raw community.

Oh wow! Thank you sooooo much! I will definitely add those two to my "soon to visit" list. When I do, I will definitely let you know how it goes... So good to meet you, neighbor!
*many hugs*

Hello okorolina! I feel so lucky to have such a wonderful restaurant in the area. Come back!!! This Saturday we went and had the "Italian Style Pizza" and it was delicious! If their raw food is that delicious I'm sure the rest of it is too.
I had the honor and privilege of meeting Chef Khepra this weekend and chatting about his website and some equipment. He was more than happy to give us honest suggestions on equipment and this lifestyle and classes. He is definitely a great addition to the DC Raw community. :) I'm REALLY looking forward to his Jamaican Healing Retreat next January. All raw folks, all raw food in beautiful, tropical Jamaica = HEAVEN.
*many hugs for you both!*

WOW are you going on that retreat?
I had a friend go on a similiar yoga retreat with Yiser (Khepra may have been there too.) She had a blast!
It is, therefore, evident that it is possible to cure by foods, aliments and fruits; but as today the science of medicine is imperfect, this fact is not yet fully grasped. When the science of medicine reaches perfection, treatment will be given by foods, aliments, fragrant fruits and vegetables, and by various waters, hot and cold in temperature.

I have wanted to go on Chef Khepra's retreats for ages. Perhaps someday ... :)
He is such a great guy. I went to a raw food meetup at Senbeb, and he made terrific food, and made us coconut water (opened a slew of coconuts that he has shipped from Florida) and sugar cane juice (with a really cool juicer that he got in the islands). I find him down to earth and quite knowledgeable. I bet his retreats are fabulous. If you go, you MUST report back!!
