    Default Experienced raw fooders--gotten this?

I just got this today from a friend--She borrowed a dehydrator from someone and said to me " I don't agree with everything you are doing but do like the idea of dehydrating" Have you had people say they don't agree with you??? It doesn't matter if she agrees or not--as stated on this forum--it is my body! But why wouldn't people see this is the best way to eat especially someone who has been on medicine for a variety of aliments for years and years(my friend). Is it just a mind set????

They do not want to believe it. Food is a bit like religion.

I have had a lot of friends disagree with what I am doing, but last year when I went 100% raw and started losing noticeable weight a few of these friends asked me to help them go raw. When they couldn't make it past their second day, they were back telling me that what I was doing was too extreme and unhealthy......as they are shoving bacon cheeseburgers in their mouth.
    Its a crazy world!

It seems to me like it's the result of pretty much everything in the world being built around eating cooked food. Unless they were to experience the health benefits themselves, they're probably not going to believe you. You know eating raw isn't a fad and people on this board know it's not a fad, but think about how many times you've seen some women's magazine or a gossip mag with the top 10 latest celebrity diets where all the people interviewed are exclaiming how wonderfull they feel on their chosen fad diet. And they always go off them and gain weight back. So it's sort of a natural reaction to become jaded and cynical when someone says they feel good by eating a certain way as opposed to having the right pills and a good shrink to go with a wealthy lifestyle. The value of food as something as essential to our wellbeing as air, water and sunlight just doesn't exist in the general public's mind.

most people prefer to take a pill rather than look at their choices as causes for their illness/dis-ease. that way there's no guilt, accountability or responsibility.

you would be amazed at how people will tell me to just go take a pill and have a doughnut (seriously those words are used) i just laugh and say no thanks, i'll stick with my freshly made live raw juice!!!

I get that too and it just boggles my mind. Why would I want a pill and a donut? The pill has weird unexpected side effects and the donut just tastes good for about 5 seconds and then makes you feel like crap for a whole day. The 5 seconds are definitely not worth it.

Awww well, I , for one, am taking control of my own health and well being and so raw food it is!! I had a delicious meal of a corn salad and zucchini spaghetti--- hmmmmmm hmmmmm! There is nothing better than raw food---beats that cooked spaghetti any day!!

I think some people are too comfortable with how things are to try it, or they think that if it really worked that their doctor would have them doing it. I think some people just can't believe that it would really make a difference, and it seems like such a dramatic change that it's just too hard for them to try. Some people might be worried about their health and too attached to the idea that their prescription is the answer, they're afraid to try something that poses such an uncomfortable change.

I'm newer at this. I think it's easiest to make this change in stages. It is very interesting to see how I feel with the changes, and day by day. Very interesting. At some moments it's easy and no problem. At others, it is a struggle.

I think the raw lifestyle is outside the realm of most people's experience...we all come to things in our own time. I didn't always know about raw...I learned about whole foods/organic, then raw...a progression. Compared to what most people have grown up with, the things we have all be taught about food groups in the mainstream, the cultural practices around food and what we have always eaten...raw is a huge step and an idea that takes some time for people to wrap their brains around.
For many, making the leap and learning, taking the time to learn new ways of doing things is overwhelming so they just push it away and don't deal...keep doing what they have always done....but...seeds that are planted do grow...sometimes very slowly.
