    Talking Calorie Intake

I'm new to the Raw Food.
I started a couple weeks ago.
    Feel great.
    Tastes great.
    Can totally stick to it.
But I'm a fifteen year old guy.
And I'm kinda worrying about not getting enough calories throughout the day.
    I might get around 1000.
And I don't want to be an anemic, muscle-less guy.
So could you suggest some fruit or vegetables high in calories and fat.
I'm a little cautious toward nuts and seeds because it's hard to tell if it's raw or not.
    thanks.

Why are you only getting 1000. I am a little granny and I need 1900 and get it most days.

Hey there. If you're wanting more calories try making some smoothies. You can pack a lot more into those things than you'd be able to eat otherwise. And if nuts/seeds don't say exclusively that they are raw, they aren't. Even almonds that are labeled raw are pasteurized with heat, and therefore... well, not raw.
Dates certainly have a lot of calories, and avocados are pretty decent as far as that goes too.

Bananas are good for calories and if at the end of the day you still have not had enough you can make a glass of "dateorade". Blend dates in water and drink it.
If you are short of calories you will not thrive and will fail.

I'm 16 and a guy. I'm pretty skinny but I must get a ton of calories each day. For lunches I'll have 2-4 bananas, about 10 dates(medjool), and water. Maybe something else but not usually. Thats about 900 calories right there . Its not that hard and I love the energy

Well assuming you're convinced of the "calorie theory", avocados are a "fatty" fruit, as are coconuts and durians if you can find them

However don't be turned off of nuts and seeds, there's an easy solution. Want to know whether they're raw or not? Try sprouting them. If they sprout then the enzymes are intact, if not then they are dead. Other benefits to sprouting is that they remove the phytates and enzyme inhibits which normally prevent the seeds digestion (as a defense mechanism) and bind the minerals to the indigestible fibers. Not only that but sprouting increase bio-availability of amino acids and EFAs and increase vit and mineral content from 30-300% (depending on which vit/min). Also if you soak the nut/seed/grain/bean in water mixed with sea salt it'll increase the mineral content even higher.

So don't be afraid to buy bulk sunflower seeds or chia/flax seeds (which are trickier but still sproutable) or pumpkin seeds or whatever. Sprouts are a great way to optimize nutrition vis sea-salt and since you grow them yourself you don't have to worry about whether or not they're REALLY organic or raw.

But please don't get caught up in the calorie myth if you can. Listen to your body. If you're hungry eat, if you're not then wait til you are regardless of how long that is. Usually the body wont start building until it's gotten a good portion of the "breaking down and eliminating" finished. Usually you get skinny as your body eliminates all the toxins, then when a good bit is out it'll start to rebuild. Look at all the fruitarian body builders who have that lean cut physique. If you interview them they'll tell you, they started off skinny during the detoxification stage, then they started to put on REAL muscle mass, not just undigested waste+water stuffed into the cells ;)

    Best of luck to you

Try the oils (above), dates, bananas, avocados, nuts, nUT BUTTERS, and try making those shmancy 'raw dessert' things like pies and cakes. Those are VERY dense, very tasty, and calorie rich :)

Go Raw Real Live Food has a really great selection of raw organic granola that has buckwheat groats, sunflower feets, dates, sesame seeds, coconut, and hemp seeds. At 240 calories per 1/3 cup, it is pretty high calorie, which in your case might benefit you. It also high protein (5g), and 14% of your daily recommendation for fat intake. It's kind of expensive, but you should definitely look try and find some next time you're at your local Whole Foods, they should have it!

Its Better that you first calculate your calorie count according to your age, height and weight. Once you determine the actual figure then you can easily stay within the limit and loose weight simultaneously.

And even with upping your calorie intake if you still end up dead skinny just get a really awesome haircut and a pair of skinny jeans and you'll be sorted.

    :P

I kid, but so many naturally slim guys worry about not being muscly enough yet I know guys who have developed minor eating disorders trying to get that skinny disheveled rockstar look. There nothing wrong with being naturally skinny. Play it up.

As long as your healthy there are always ways to play up your body type.

a lot of places sell hemp protein powder, which isn't a whole food perse, but definitely convenient, raw, all amino acids, and kind of nice and filling when you're in a pinch
