    Default Mushrooms are Grounding!

Hey everyone, I started transitioning into raw just a few weeks ago and have been finding it really difficult to get that "grounded" feeling that I got when eating cooked foods/animal products. I found myself instinctively going for fats, and have been eating tons of fats to the point where it is making me feel sick, and I still haven't gotten that feeling that I wanted. I'm not talking about the "dead" feeling that I now realize I feel from cooked foods, but things which help me to concentrate and feel like more real and just present and clear.

This afternoon I made a big salad with lots of mushrooms, and I must say that this is the first time which I have totally felt grounded and great! I am so happy to discover the magical qualities of mushrooms, being a gift from the earth and a very earthy fruit it makes a lot of sense to me. They are really like connected with the ground and dirt and earth and all those nice smells and feelings. I am also an air sign and so this grounding is something particularly elusive to me and equally desirable.

So for anyone else who has been struggling with this during the transition time to a raw food diet, try it out! A wonderful, low fat, filling and delicious option! Love to mushrooms everywhere, thank you thank you thank you!!!

If anyone has other suggestions for grounding foods other than nuts/seeds/fats, let me know your experiences. Thanks!

I *love* mushrooms ~ I've got some in the dehydrator right now, stuffed with Alissa's pesto. I love marinating them overnight in a sauce of tamari (or nama shoyu), lemon juice, crushed garlic and olive oil - then stuff and dehydrate. *Ü*

Avocados for me! Also, tomatoes... and, formerly, marinated mushrooms with peppers -- but I find I no longer crave these now.

Since you're on a mushroom kick, you may find my recent recipe video, Spicy Mushroom Casserole, a thrill! It's a recipe I originally got the inspiration for here on RFT, but since evolved into my own thang.

Spicy mushroom casserole sounds awesome! Thanks, Green Woman!

Mushrooms are grounding for me too. I only like them when they are marinaded though, the longer the better! What kind of mushrooms are your faves? I love a huge slice of juicy portabella.

speaking of grounding does anyone have any more tips on this subject? I was watching a youtube today about a guy that does yoga and he sat down crosslegged and you could just see how grounded he was...I don't know does yoga help or maybe hes just a grounded person but he seemed very comfortable in his skin in how he sat , if that makes any sense!

Yoga, but especially meditation can help a lot.

    Yoga...
Walking outdoors barefooted (where permitted) and sinking your toes in the earth...
Gardening with your bare hands, again, in the soil...
    Hugging trees...

These are all grounding exercises I love to partake of in my own life. :)

While this falls under the "seed" category, I find sprouted breads to be, what I would consider grounding (hard telling if it's the same grounding you're feeling, the word is so like... subjective). The feeling I get from breads is a sort of balanced, fulfilled, relaxing feeling. Breads give me a sort of spiritual vibe, like some chill essene some'n or other. Me and bro have been making them a lot lately, here's a quantum peak:

This is sprouted Kamut and Oat with Seaweed and Onion blended into it. They worked great as some breadsticks doubledopedipped in olive oil.

We be gettin' mad artsy with our creations. Here we have a sprouted Kamut sprouted Rye quilt. The darker patches are Rye, the light are Kamut. It made for a prana-packed sandwich, as you can see:

I've ran out of image space here, but I've got more to show. Onto next post we go! Geronimo!

Next up, a bread forged with sprouted Rye and sprouted Garbanzo beans. Blessed with the likes of tarragon, oregano, sage, red miso, and garlic powder, this also made for an adorable sandwich.

The yumminess doesnt' stop there. Introducing, CinnamonCocoaKamutRye swirl. The lighter part, sprouted Kamut with cinnamon, the darker part, sprouted Rye with cocoa powder. This made for a fantastic base to lace with fruity spreads or jellies.

Last but not least, Pumpernickel bread. This is a recipe raweater posted, from Julianno's book, I believe. I wouldn't mind some right now... spare change, anyone? spare change? *Holds cup out with pleading eyes*

    Looks fantastic-
I think I am going to buy a dehydrator after I move in one month, I am also feeling the sprouted breads and such as a good staple.

    Thanks for the inspiration!!

    DRA: so tempting looking! :)

re mushrooms, raw mushrooms always make my stomach go berserck. I think I read that there is always a bit of toxicity in them when raw and I now avoid them. Glad they work for some though.

also has anybody read a book called Grain Damage? I would like to know more about this..

Yes, I have the book Grain Damage and have read it a couple of times. I keep resolving to follow the advice because it seems so logical and my insides tell me it's logical. I get very bloated from grain.

We have so many options besides grains, why not just do it and see if our bodies thrive. If it feels worse OFF grains than it feels ON grains, then we could rethink it.
    Have a great day!
