    Default My garden....and a comparison

Here's my raised bed garden with my own soil mix, compared to dirt with just aged manure.

These pictures compare the growth difference between the two. The cabbages shown were bought from a greenhouse as starts at the same time. The one in the dirt was also planted a week sooner than the cabbage in the raised bed.

    What's in your mix?

    What else are you growing?

I should go get some updated pictures. I didn't know how big those things would get but they're crowding out everything around em. And I don't think the SFG method took into account growing super huge vegetables. But I think it would of been ok if I would have just started em from seed. I dunno though, I still have much to learn.

I mixed in vermiculite/biochar/coco fiber/aged manure/rock dust. Then I raked it smooth and I added some mychorzia fungi to the top and gave it a nice watering then a couple days later I planted everything.

Here's a nice website for rock dust information. www.remineralize.org
I picked up the rock dust from a local pit.

I made the biochar using a TLUD kiln that I made from a 30 gallon drum that had old grain in it from feeding cows. I just collected branches from a local area that people dump their yard trimmings.

I don't have a very big garden. I didn't know how much I would need to last me through the winter, but it's looking like next year I'm gonna need to make it bigger.

I planted an assortment of things. I think like 3-4 kinds of sweet peppers/3 kinds of hot peppers/3 types of cabbage/carrots/onions/garlic/2 types of radish/spinach/3 types of lettuce/3 types of beets/2 types of kohlrabi/swiss chard/3 types of kale/peas/yellow beans/squash/cantaloupe/watermelon/2 types of cucumbers/2 types of tomato/squash/dill/arugula/chives/scallions/oregano/parsley/thyme/sage/basil/cilantro/broccoli/cauliflower

But I noticed that only a couple of herbs came up. I'm happy that one of em was dill. I replanted em but I still don't see anything popping up there.

It's my first garden, so next year I'll have a better start and be better prepared.

I went out a couple minutes ago and got some updates.

These honkers are taking over. I can only imagine how huge they would get if they were given a little more space.
