Hello from Siberia!
Hi everyone! :) I'm new here. My name is Olesya, I'm 27 years old. I'm from Novosibirsk, Russia.
I've been fruitarian for 2 months and raw vegan for almost 10 months. I started my raw food diet in September 2009. For a year before this event I had a big problem with my bowels. I tried to eat healthy food, excluded meat, baked goods, took bifidus bacteria, but nothing helped me. I didn't know what to do and I were searching through Internet for any useful information. And one day I found out the articles about raw food. And I started to eat raw food and all my problems were resolved in 3 days. It was great. I can't believe it was happening to me. But it wasn't very easy to eat raw food, because it's very cold in Siberia and we have summer only during 3 months. But I did it :) Now I eat only fruits and a little nuts (very rarely).
I would be glad to meet other people, exchange our experience and simply to chat :)

Hi, Olesya, welcome. =]
Wow, Siberia! That's neat. From what I've seen most people here are located in North America. Congratulations on your success with raw food! Lots of people say it's difficult to stay raw in cold weather. I wonder if it's due to the lower amount of sunshine? Hm.
So you only eat fruits and nuts? Why no veggies?

Hi. Welcome.
You deserve great credit for your achievements considering where you live.
Do you have access to any greens. I think that most people would agree that in the long term you need greens to maintain health.
I only eat fruit but I have about a pound or half a kilo of greens daily in a smoothie and a little flax seed and other seeds for my essential fatty acids. You will be short of minerals if you eat only fruit.
It is great to have you here and hopefully we will help you to follow the path you have chosen so wisely.

Welcome onboard..nice to have you here.
I agree with what has been said, good for you for managing staying raw in the cold and dark..is it hard to find fruits and veggies there in the winter months?
-
Welcome Olesya!
I so admire your dedication.
Have you considered an indoor garden? A friend of mine who lives in a cold climate (albeit not as cold as Siberia) has been growing leafy greens in her kitchen window.
It is great that you found us - all the best to you!

Hi Olesya!
I understand what you mean because I've studied in Volgograd for 4 years!!
During that time I was a vegetarian, I didn't know about the benefits of all fruits yet. SO i was quite sick and I ate alot of cucumbers(not cheap in winter!!), Lays, Alpen Gold, and alot of the creamy waffles and piroshki. It's due to a lack of calories since i didn't eat meat so I ate alot of junk food After some time I started to eat meat. and I felt a lot better due to the stimulating effect and also the calories made me feel satisfied. Now I'm trying to be a fruitarian!!! Plus green smoothie, sweet potatoes, some brown rice, nuts, raw milk etc...

This diet will not work in the long run unless you do it right but it will work very well if you do it right. It is 36 years since I last ate even a tiny scrap of meat so I know that it is not needed. It is 9 years since I had any milk so I know that you do not need that either. I am healthy and I feel great. I am the only one that I know who manages to feel better as they get older.
You need a fair bit of greens in your diet. I do think that it will not work without it.

Shels, you're absolutely right. The sunny days happen very rarely. Plus there is a lack of fruits and people are used to have diet without fruits, veggies and greens. I eat only fruits and nuts because I like it. I don't like veggies, except the carrot and tomatoes.
How long have you been eating raw food?

Sport, in the last month I feel craving for leafy greens. And I started to eat it more and more often. It seems that my organism has a lack of minerals.

Basenjimamma, I can find fruits and veggies in our supermarkets in the winter months. But they are all imported and sometimes not so tasty.

Revdrcyn, yes, I'm going to do it the next winter. I think it's great. Some people in Siberia grows greens during the winter.

Sport, that's amazing. 36 years without meat and 9 years without milk is the best evidence of uselessness of these products.

Oh wow. I can't imagine fruit not being common! That's too bad you don't like veggies though, I love greens.
I've been moving farther into raw foods since the beginning of the year, and I've been 100% for um.. probably a few months now, with the exception of small amounts of ingredients like vanilla, nutritional yeast, and olive oil.
