    Default Ideas for traveling food?

I am moving to a small island in the fall for 2 months. There isn't much available for a raw foodist there (I have been there before), so I am planning on bringing as much food with me as possible. I was thinking of a good buckwheat cereal and maybe some raw bars i can make in my dehydrator.

Anyone have any good recipes for things with a long shelf life? Can you tell me what the shelf life is if you post a recipe?

Thanks! All help is very much appreciated.

Are you able to shop for produce there and make more food or is it what you take it what you have.

What is the fridge situation? I would have thought an island would have access to a goof variety of produce, but maybe you can freeze some and store it?

I bought crackers at the farmers market and have had them in the freezer about a month. still good. I have no dehydrator so i take a few at a time and keep them there. Maybe flax seed and nuts. is there a weight restriction with what you can carry? money constraints?

I can shop for produce but I cant get organic, and they only grow high sugar fruits locally like mangos, bananas, and papayas. I will be eating the produce with minimal pesticide residues. There is a weight and money constraint unfortunately.

I am thinking cracker/flat bread/rawfood bars might last long enough but I cant find any data on how long foods like this last and for how long I have to dehydrate them.

    thanks for your inputs!

edit: and i do have a fridge, its not a 3rd world country.

    Hey Myla!

If you dehydrate your Crackers long enough, they will keep for you a very long time...no refrig needed for that. I would say dehydrated fruit would be in the same catagory...

Sounds to me like your best bet, though, is to stick with HIGH Smoothies, esp if fruit is readily available!!! I mean you've got Bananas/Mango Smoothie (add some greens, though...) and Banana Papaya (add different kinds of greens), and just Bananas!!! You've got the makings of terrific SMOOTHIES!!!If I were you, I'd take minimal dehydrated foods and stick to fruits and veggies. I'm sure you won't be there the rest of your life--when you get home look forward to making the more complicated RAW Recipes... If I were in your shoes, I'd enjoy fresh what the Island has to offer... Oh, BTW...can I go?
