there are a few recipes out there for Eggplant Bacon, which actually tastes more like a jerky to me. the key is getting the smoky flavor from liquid smoke or something. i use smoked paprika :)

wait a second - whats so raw about smoke ?

    liquid smoke ?

i like what Jack Lalanne said:

"if man made it, don't eat it", and "if it tastes good, spit it out."

i think this is the most concise expression of nutritional wisdom you will find anywhere.

    yes.

food usually tastes good when it has a lot of sugar and/or salt and/or fat.

when our government published its guidelines for reducing dietary fat intake to combat obesity and heart disease this backfired because processed food makers substituted double the amount of sugar into all of the foods in which they reduced the fat content.

you take a look at any of the comfort foods - ice cream, chocolate, chocolate chip cookies, pizza - it's always some kind of combination of sugar, salt and fat - triple dose of death.

of course we can't forget caffeine but it's not used for taste.

and look at truly healthy foods - broccoli, kale - these are not foods you would be binging on if your boyfriend left you ;)

now there maybe some exceptions like Apples ... i guess that's why iPhone is called Apple and not Broccoli or Pizza.

would you spend triple the cost of a PC on a Broccoli computer ?

I actually bought asparagus for comfort food the other day when I was sad. I did steam them for a minute though. Oh, the guilt!

Anyhow. I really don't agree with you. There are plenty of healthy foods that taste great. There aren't many, if any, healthy foods that will make you emotionally numb and that are highly addictive though. But that's something completely different.

nuerosport--do you have an unhealthy relationship with food? I'm not judging....I'm just wondering? I think that food should taste good and there is nothing wrong with enjoying it.
