Natural Living 6: Putting your best foot forward
Alright boys, girls, & squirrels, who out there appreciates the many health benefits of going barefoot and refuses to confirm to the social pressures of wearing shoes? Barefooters have very few of the health problems that "shoed" people have. I've not jumped into it myself, except periodically so it's on my todo list.
Also what kind of foods/oils you massage into your feet?
I chose the road less traveled and it has made all the difference...
Those who say it cannot be done shouldn’t interrupt the person doing it.

I love going barefoot ~ but I haven't taken the plunge except around the house, camping, at the beach, etc.
My feet are in the best shape (dryness wise) since going raw and giving up soap. I dry brush. I do apply a shea butter / coconut oil combo lotion that I make. *Ü*

Those are cute but can you wear them out of doors or just inside.

They've got vibram soles. They are made to wear outside. If I remember correctly, I did a blogpost on them.... or not.

I hate shoes!! I LOVE barefoot When I was a kid and jelly shoes and other such non-sense were all the rage my parents told me "good shoes or no shoes" I opted for no (except when I had to wear good) and have never looked back! Now, I certainly don't have very pretty feet ;) but I also don't have back problems and joint problems and the like.
I have wondered about getting the vibram things - I would only wear them outside I would think......have to re-look into that!

Hi kaybee ~ I've looked at these before but can't decide which style. Which do you have?
I like the classic - but maybe a strap across the top of the foot is better..? *Ü*

No reason to wear them inside.

I've always LOVED being barefoot, and have recently discovered how awful shoes are for your foot. It was a big DUH moment, but at least I realize it now while my children are still young. I'm working on getting them some "barefoot shoes" and some Vibrams for myself and my husband (for when we go out). If we're at home, or out in the yard, I encourage my children to go barefoot. They've even went without on trips to the store.
I've used shea butter on my feet and coconut oil on my son's. Not consistent enough to see results, though. I'm working on that.

Always love you on my threads, DebB, hopefully one day you'll "take the plunge"

The main complaint with Five Fingers is that they wear out very quickly - as little as a month according to some reviews. VIVObarefoot shoes are priced higher but appear to last considerably longer. However, if you watch where you are going there are few places where you really need extra protection. There is a third option which is apparently better AND cheaper, will update you as necessary.

Just curious do squirrels (or at least the one with the Vitamix) wear any footwear outside at all?

For those who want to try, my understanding is the first two months are well, painful. After this period your feet are naturally calloused, after which you only need wear shoes for formal occasions.

I LOVE going barefoot....when I was a kid I was barefoot about 4 months of the year (Montana, after all) but when I got plantar fascitis I had to start wearing arch supports and my barefoot days ended. I might try again. BUT, I HATE having anything between my toes...can't stand flipflops, so I don't think I could tolerate the Vibrams.

Getting back on the wagon after being off raw for over a year.
