Default 1 year old having trouble going to bathroom

My son is a year old and he has been breastfed this entire time.
Just recently he has gotten some food. He has eaten, canteloupe, watermelon, honeydew, shredded carrots, broccoli, cauliflower and this is not on a daily occurrence, but mainly when we go out. And it's all raw.
He has such sticky poos after he has eaten and it is very hard for him to go.
How can I help him along? He is definitely wanting to eat, but he has such a hard time after he does.
Is it just that his body needs to adjust to the foods?

    Thanks!
    ~Pam ;)

He's probably adjusting to foods. It happens. Try apple juice or prune juice. Both will help your baby. Apple juice always worked for my kids.

Oh yes, thanks for that apple juice reminder! That works like a charm and very easy to make from home!
Now, the trick is to get him to drink it! He's not too fond of a cup yet!

Try and do what you would do in nature, he wouldn't be eating brocolli or cauliflower, he wouldn't be eating with a cup or spoon.

The easiest way to feed babies and kids, it plop them in the bathtub, and give them a piece of fruit and let them have all the fun in the world, when they have made a huge mess, turn on the water, play wash off the baby, and pat them dry in a big soft towel as you cuddle them.

Also, apples aren't the most wonderful foods for babies, think of what he could eat all on his own, peach comes to mind, maybe some berries, oh what fun, to smash up all over himself, Wheeeee!

I remember my son, and how I used to feed him, I would get in the tub with him, and we'd feed each other all this smashed up mess, he loved it.

Just make it fun, and give him what he can eat that he loves.

Good thing to keep it raw, what a wonderful mom you are.

    Bananas are really good too.

Vegggeeemom, I've always gone by the old saying that just about anything that starts with P will help one poop.

    Peas
    peaches
    pears
    plums
    prunes

    etc....

My little boy goes almost before he's even done eating a handful of blueberries.

    Hi Pam,

I have to agree with rawpriestess about the broccoli and cauliflower (just my opinion). I have read (I think from Natural Hygiene) that children normally don't start on veggies (naturally) until they are around 2. I don't think their bodies can handle them at a younger age. It was just a couple of weeks after my grandson's 2nd birthday that he started to eat lettuce from my salad. He did eat some carrots, though, at a younger age.

I would try to cut out the broccoli & cauliflower and see his his poos are a little easier for him. If they are, then wait until your child is a little older and re-introduce them and see how it goes.

Thank you all for your responses!
I will do that! I'll cut out the broccoli and cauliflower and just stick w/ the fruits he loves.
He had some canteloupe today and devoured it.
Thanks again for all your words of wisdom!
