    Default Raw Black Beans - A no-no??

OK so I sprouted raw black beans overnight and ate them about an hour ago. It then dawned on me that I should have double checked whether or not this was safe... So I did some googling, and saw that they could be toxic if eaten raw. Now I feel upset to my stomach (though this is probably psychological, as I tend to psych myself out a lot), and am a bit concerned about this... I had probably half a cup or so... And they were tasty. But am I going to become violently ill or something?? Please help! I'm paranoid... And I need to know what to do with all these sprouted black beans now... Thank you raw foodies :)

There are limited uses for some of the raw, sprouted large beans. Sprouts of black beans, blackeye peas, and small red beans, are sometimes used in small quantities as a flavoring ingredient in sprouting mixtures and/or salads (in effect, used as a condiment).
Soy and kidney bean sprouts are toxic and should be avoided.
I was looking at Juliano's raw book and he mentions black bean sprouts in it but never addresses the issues or not. So, by this I'm assuming they may be okay.
Some say they are great and some say no way. Listen to your body! If you have problems, don't! However, there may be a difference between half a cup and half a kilo!

My wife loves wheatgrass juice, but if she drinks more than an ounce she will vomit! Black bean have some of the highest levels of good things - which may be causing some people to react!

This thread has some more opinions...

Personally - I (|NOW) think eating Green Leaves is much better than sprouts of any kind.

    Thank you!!

I didn't vomit, but I honestly felt like I was going to... I was a bit concerned and probably won't be eating them raw again. But I'll certainly try raw chick peas, since I've heard that they're easier on the body.

    Thanks for your concern.

    I'm glad you're feeling well :)

I know this isn't what you asked, but I do well with sprouting things like alfalfa, red clover - the little seeds. I grow sunflower greens too and really like those. *Ü*
