Default My daughter was sick-first time since being high raw

She went off with her dad's family this weekend and strayed...ate meat and a bunch of processed, cooked food and what happened?? She got TERRIBLY sick. *sigh* A part of it, I think, was her body rejecting the junk she was consuming and the other part I think was her body's immune system being compromised by the food and making her susceptible to the germs/illness she was exposed to at a birthday party at a roller rink.

Her aunt tells me that after showing signs of being sick Monday morning, she refused to eat anything, was vomiting even when she took in liquids (a pepsi they gave her!!! UGH! to supposedly 'settle her stomach). Additionally they pumped her full of medicine without asking me first.

I stopped at my local co-op and got a bunch of coconut water to replenish all the electrolytes she had lost and the kitchen was already full of fruits and veggies. I asked if she wanted to eat anything and initially she refused. A little later, she requested coconut water...then strawberries...then bananas...then peaches...then oranges. ;) That's all she wanted, consuming more and more each time.

I found it ironic (and wonderful) that her body was telling her what it needed to heal. The vitamin C and the zinc to rebuild her system. I wasn't pushing these things on her at all, she just started asking. I was perfectly fine with just keeping her hydrated until she was ready to eat.

As she started to feel better (because she was giving her body what it NEEDED) we talked about the connection. She said that she knew it was because of the food, asked if I could make her raw foods to take with her next time and said she'd ask her paternal family to give her fruits and vegetables at her next visit as opposed to what she ate this weekend because (and I quote) "I don't ever want to feel like this again."

While it broke my heart that my baby had to go through this, it makes my heart smile to know that the experience was not in vain. She fully knows the path that she wants to travel now. (Oh, btw...for breakfast this morning, she had a huge bowl of fruit that she prepared herself before I even got out of bed - strawberries and bananas.

Thank you for 'listening'....I just wanted to share.

ETA: I almost forgot, she asked for chamomile tea with (raw) honey to help her sleep and because her throat was hurting.

We believe the same thing! My daughter has been sick twice in the last month... both almost immediately after have cooked food!!! We feel it's her body telling her in a very strong way that it doesn't want that food coming in anymore.

We are sending Reiki and love to your daughter...

It is, it so is. My daugther and I have talked a lot about this today. Great conversation to have especially having your daughter's experience in the mix now. Now she sees it in a new light...

A good light, a very good light! Hope that assists your daughter as well... knowing her raw-buddy is going through the same thing!

Oh I absolutely agree. Having these talks while "in the moment" makes it so much more relevant for them. We laid in bed last night and had a long talk. It's so heart warming to hear HER initiate conversations, ask questions and make connections like this. I just love it, love it, love it.

She thinks it's cool that another 11 year old girl is going through the same things as she is. I told her that your daughter had gotten sick recently too after eating non-raw when I picked her up from school today and she said, "Her too?? I hope she feels better, cause that was the pits." I couldn't help but laugh at her...and smile at the lessons that are being learned and the path being blazed.

    Our girls are awesome!!! :)

I forgot to say (got caught up in my thinking lol) that I'm so glad that my baby's experience is helping your daughter to grow as well. I love how this community we have is helping us all to grow in so many, many ways. It's just so beautiful to me!

While not directly related, my daughters have been sick with a viral tummy bug this past week (all at different times). It amazed them that the only things that would stay down and even sounded appealing were juicy fruits! I was sooo happy
My 14 year old said, "Hmmm maybe this virus was a good thing. I think it'll jump start my raw journey since nothing else will stay down!"
My 11 year old is constantly asking, "Will this give me zits and if it won't will it help get rid of the ones I have?" - this is after she found out that after detox on raw it will help clear your skin up :) Hey right now I'll take whatever it is that will get them interested in going down the path of living foods!
My 15 year old is simply making smoothies without any sort of prompting. I've been amazed at her choices as she is one not to talk about it (like I was as a youngster - even now if I think about it).
My 6 (g) and 9 (b) year olds simply grab fruit for snacks whenever hungry because it's all there is available to munch on. I loved it when my son asked me if he could have a banana right as I was about to put dinner on the table (more on that in a min). Initially not thinking cause I was half listening to be honest, I said no. Then he gets all indignant on me and says, "But Mooooom it's healthy and you said we could have healthy fruit and veggies any time we wanted to!!" That got my attention and I told him he was absolutely correct and that I was sorry for not really listening to him the first time :)

About that cooked dinner ... it's funny how there is less and less of the cooked dinner getting eaten - therefore I'm cooking less (cause we still have 2 boys and a husband at home that are not eating raw other than their nightly salads ... though hubby does eat way more salads than the boys).

While a little different,it's awesome that they can all use these type experiences to objectively reflect. Our babies are growing in leaps and bounds...right before our eyes. My heart is so full!

    Angry Transitions and cooked food

I have to totally agree with you as well. However, my issue was transitioning and giving into cooked food.. and then getting sick from what was going on in the office... over a pizza craving =( I at 85% raw and blew it .. then paid the price for three weeks =/.

And the whole time.. I've been wanted coconut water.. which is difficult to get filtered in a way I can drink it.. I'm allergic to the pulp (looking forward to what happens during month three where my food allergies tend to start disappearing..)

I hope everyone stays NOT sick this season!
