Sell my Green Star for a Hurom/Omega VRT?
As some of you know I've been recommending the Green Star since I got mine a few years ago but I've recently heard of the Hurom/Omega VRT (from hereafter called the "Hurom") and after getting information about this new technology I really think I should sell my Green Star and get the Hurom, in fact I can probably sell my Green Star 3000 for about the cost of a new Hurom so there would be very little cost involved.
The cons of the green star are the counter space it uses and it's not as quick to clean as the Hurom even though I do clean my Green Star in about 2 minutes. I also think the Hurom juices faster and works better with fruits. One of the things I juice the most in my Green Star is grapefruits/oranges and they sometimes juice slowly although I seem to have found the correct pulp pressure valve setting to get it flowing smoothly.
If anyone's used both the Green Star and Hurom would you recommend I sell my Green Star and get the Hurom?
Does the juice from the Hurom also last 2-3 days like the Green Star juice?
I must say that even though I had the Green Star for 2-3 years I've probably only used it like 50 times at most (which is much more than I had used my Breville centrifugal juicer), so I'm hoping the Hurom is easier/faster and makes me use it more often.
Thanks

Another question, are there any extraction effenciency comparisons that compare how much juice the greenstar and hurom extract from the same amount of produce?

The VRT (Hurom) doesn't do greens like the greenstar. I'd say its a definite downgrade.

The VRT/Hurom does do greens and wheatgrass, I've seen many videos of it doing them very very well.
I also found a video on yeild comparison and the yeild is better on the Green Star but as I said I used my Green Star at most 50 times in 2-3 years, I think I would use the Hurom/VRT more often due to it's faster speed and more simple cleanup.

really? i can't imagine getting a lesser quality juice and lesser yield to save myself 5 minutes. but then... i look at it differently. juice is the nectar of life in my world... it's the BEST option for my body bar none... so giving it less-than when i have the opportunity to give it the best... just wouldn't happen.
but it's your choice and if you really do end up using it more (except you said you used your breville just as little)... so will you really?

I just rec'd my Hurom, and can tell you that I love the way it works, love the juice, the ease of cleanup. I have been using a greenstar for the past 5 years, and know that the Hurom will now be my main juicer.
This morning I did grapefruit/orange for my husband, then did spinach/kale,romaine,apple,pineapple, kiwi for me. Didn't have to take anything apart, clean it before switching. Just flushed it with water and did the second batch. Everything went through quickly and easily ... wow.
And clean up is simply a breeze.
note: I have already tried doing banana ice cream in the hurom ... yep, works great.
Cheers
Terry

I think the juice quality from both the Hurom and Green Star must be quite close but there doesn't seem to be any nutrient studies on the Hurom like on the Green Star. The lesser yield isn't very big either, it's still quite a better yield than the Omega 8005 just not as high as the Green Star.
The Hurom is also much faster to use at all stages because firstly it's self feeding so you don't need to use a tamper to press everything down slowly like the green star, it processes the food much faster than the green star, and it's much quicker to clean. So I expect what now takes me maybe 20 minutes with my green star would likely take me 5-10 minutes at most with the hurom.
Also one reason I didn't use the Breville much was that since it operates at such high speed it oxidizes and destroys the juice making tasteless colored sugared water, the juices where near tasteless out of that juicer and in no way comparable to a low speed juicer. And even though it had few parts to clean, the parts where ridiculously huge so they still took a while to clean.
BTW I disagree that juice is the best thing we can consume, if it was juice would grow in trees somehow. The best food is whole unprocessed food. But I rarely eat vegetables as is and prefer vegetable juice, so it's better to take vegetable juice than no vegetables at all.
BTW my Green Star is already on ebay and if it sells then I'm buying the Hurom.

Personally I find a huge difference in the Greenstar type juicer, the Breville and the Omega/Hurom. The Omega Vert is way quicker in juicing and cleanup. As much as I'd like to stick with a Greenstar or similar juicer, I likely would stick with the Vert if I were doing consistent juicing.

I like the fact that the Hurom/OmegaVRT does both juicy things like apples and cukes WELL as well as greens/wheatgrass --so maybe it's 90 - 95% as well as the Greenstar with the greens, but it's supposedly quite close. I also have two machines and am ordering the Omega and getting rid of one.
Some people are going to be getting good deals on juicers on eBay....LOL

Yeah, I agree that the Greenstar is probably not much better.

thanks for enlightening me on the hurom raweater. i appreciate it!
but as for juice... and green smoothies for that matter... breaking down the cell walls of the foods makes our body absorb the nutrients... we seldom chew our food reaaaaaaally well (many just wolf it down barely tasting it although i doubt most raw foodists do this) - so juicing or blending is superior in that way - in my opinion - (which sells for nothing on ebay LOL)
*giggling at myself*

OMG my green star sold for $350, the hurom is $330, I'm getting paid to upgrade!

bumping to see how you are liking your hurom raweater! i am thinking of getting a VRT...

I have the hurom, a champion, and a greenstar. I like them all for various reasons. However, I am now back using the greenstar because it homogizines nuts effectively, and the juice is almost pulp-free.
The hurom is definitely faster, tho.

I really like the Hurom much better than the green star, due to how much of a pain the green star is both to use and clean I used it probably 5 times a year, I use the Hurom much, much more often as it's so easy to use and clean.
The greenstar was little more than a $500 paperweight for the 2 years or so I had it.
If you don't mind the pain of using and cleaning the green star then it's a better choice as it extracts more juice and makes less pulp in the juice, but if you want something simple and fast then get the Hurom (I'd recommend it over the Omega VRT due to Omega's disgusting disrespect for the health of their customers with some of their past models that put highly toxic ground melamine powder in the juice).
