  1. Default howdy from hyperlocavore

    Hey!

I am so impressed by this community and happy to have found you all.

I am very new to raw...and kind of foodie/omnivore... I am here to learn a lot more about the lifestyle and the food choices that make all the raw folks so good lookin!

I am getting older now so the less than perfect choices I have made are really starting to have their impact. I am looking for a few things more energy, better skin and a whole new range of easy to make and great meals for my repetoire.

I am not won over to the green juicing... I hate juicers.. what a mess! Butthe raw desers are AAAAAAMAAAAAZING. So maybe eventually I will get myself into the green juice stuff. I do understand it's nutritionally important.

I also am very concerned about food miles and sustainability.

I run a website called hyperlocavore - a yardsharing community. I wouldn't mention it but I think it's a really relevant space for anyone who needs to get a lot more fresh fruit and veg into their lives. Organics can be costly...and as we are starting to understand having a tomato travel around the globe is not good for the planet or your kids futures.

Yard sharing is about forming small groups to share space, strength, tools, seeds and the harvest. I am very much about rebuilding resilient neighborhoods full of well fed people. My secret weapon - the homegrown tomato.

We can help the average family save a huge amount per year. I did one calculation where 4 families plant blueberries almonds and granny smith's. After 20 years each of those families had 64K in the bank. I know this sounds spammy.

Anyway. Glad to be here and ready to learn.

How interesting is this? I was just thinking about sending notices out to some of my neighbors about getting together and sharing gardening tips, tools, resources, etc. We all have yards so that wont be an issue. Knowledge would be.

We have a couple of community gardens up this way as well.

    Welcome to RFT!

  4. Default Wonderful!

It's so much easier when you have someone to share the work with...and you can end up usually with a lot more space to grow a lot more.
