Default Natural Progesterone Cream whilst on raw?

Should I be using natural progesterone cream whilst on raw ??? I'm 47 years old, perimenopausal and get quite severe PMS, or lets say "used to", I've been on raw for 3 weeks, should I try and go without it? I'm also using the herb St. John's Wort, should I leave that out too? ~ I used it for depression, but clearly the depression was coming from a junk food diet! Thanks!

Only you can make those decisions. What do you want to do? What is your body telling you?

One nice thing... (for me) is I like that I don't take anything... so I know that it's eating raw (or fasting) that has brought 'this' or 'that' into my health/body or... I know that it hasn't helped. I like that. I like knowing what helped.

But it's up to you... what do you want to do?

I like to be scientific. But that's just me. I know quite a bit about hormones, and I'd say to check your P4 (progesterone) with a blood test on cd 20. If it's low, supplement. Then if you notice your PMS is disappearing, stop taking the P4, and test again.

Then again, if your E2 is high, (test this on CD 3 - usually), then I'd also do the P4 to balance out the E2.

Also, be sure to emphasize the cruciferous veggies as they help your body metabolize estrogens to become the GOOD ones, not the bad ones.

Also, check the ingredients of your P4. Most have junk in them. You may want to research sublingual P4 - not oral pills that go through your digestive system. .Sublingual is better because it goes directly into your blood, not into your digestive system. Or vaginal ones with all natural ingredients are good.

    HTH,

    Mary Kay
p.s. Just in case.....You don't start taking P4 until you ov. It's best to taper off it, just about 4 or five days before your pd is due.

I was doing natural progesterone cream before I started raw 3 years ago, and I'm still doing it. First get raw, then see what else to do.

I know this can seem a bit off-topic, but also I would avoid any endocrine disruptors, if you aren't already. These are things like traditional household cleaners, bleach, chlorine, PCBs, DDT, fluoride and other water contaminants. They have been scientifically shown to screw with hormone levels, such that more vulnerable populations like otter in the Columbia River valley have seen a 9-fold reduction in penis size, and some male birds have grown ovaries.

Always use pure water, especially if your tap tastes and smells of chorine, remove super-abrasive cleaners from your home, etc. At work, I noticed that one of the cleaning products was actually causing what's known as "Phantom Smell Syndrome" where I would smell unpleasant odors that nobody else could detect. I stopped using the spray and the symptoms went away.

Saliva testing is the most accurate. I have been perimenopausal since I was 37 and now I'm 44 and have had 3 periods last year 2009 and so far none this year. I have my progesterone compounded for me and I bring up my own cream because I know there is noithing in it and I have them add powdered c to preserve it for the month and I refrigerate too. For me it helps with the insomnia and being on a raw food diet I have been able to reduce the amount needed.

I also use compounded bio-identical hormones (progesterone, estradiol and testosterone). I've used them now for about 5 years. I'm 54 and am in perimenopause (last period was about 4 months ago). *Ü*

Hey DebB...I had forgotten that we're the same age. I am still getting my pds, but they're starting to be slightly irregular, so I'm right in your footsteps.....

And all, I'd have to disagree that saliva is the MOST accurate. Years ago, while ttc, I took a TON of saliva tests and often backed them up with blood tests....They occasioanally disagreed - but only slightly.

I don't think they're the most accurate, but I think they're the easiest cheapest and since you do them over the course of a month, you can see exactly what your levels are doing.

But you can do this in the privacy of your own home, spitting in a tube and not going to the docs every other day to get blood drawn.

I think they're best/easiest, but not necessarily more accurate. I just had to be a nitpick...LOL

And for those of you getting compounded P4 ---I did that too way back when, and they did put some junk in it. Do check, you may be surprised.

Also, I've heard they now have a sublingual one that is absorbed directly into the bloodstream that does not contain any junk.

Anyone know if you need a script for it?

FWIW - My holistic MD (the one who RXs my bios) says a saliva test is fine, but once you've started taking hormones (or he could have said bios, I don't recall) then the saliva test isn't the way to go...

I've been using the cream based bios (from Women's Intl Pharmacy) for a while now. Their pharmacist developed the cream's base and my doc feels it allows for the best absorption. They're also the least expensive of any pharmacy I've had them compounded at too - bonus!

Terry and Mary Kay ~ Can you tell me more about this new sublingual? I took sublinguals back when I first started bios, but have been on cream for quite some time. I'd like to know more pretty please ~ *Ü*

I just asked my doctor to prescribe it when I read that it bypasses the liver.
I like it because I take one before bed and it puts me right to sleep!
If I am going through a patch of insomnia I wait to take it until i wake up at night then I go straight back to sleep.
It is a little pink square and you just put it under your tounge to dissolve
    .
