Default 30 Day Callenge: Day 1-7

SORRY! I'm definitely joing the challenge thread kind of late but I have been doing this on my own since the New Year and I am excited about the opportunity to join others on this journey.

    2010 Goals

Improve Overall Health--This may include but is not limited to just weight loss. This goal is one of the things that pushed me to become 100% Raw Vegan. I have been a vegetarian for over a year and this felt like the next natural step. I am also committed to working out five to six days a week. While I enjoy intense cardio sessions, this can also include walking or just being really active outdoors...but because I live in the North it usually means hitting the gym.

Improve Finances--This meant starting the New Year with a budget and sticking to it. I have alloted myself $30.00/week including dining out. My goal is to never have to "work" at a job I hate because I need the paycheck.

Quality of Life--I want to grow. I want to learn. I want to travel. I want to be young. I want to live. I feel like going Raw is only the first step in a bigger journey...

    Jan 1. - Jan. 7

I have been keeping it really simple. After reading Renee's thread about her 30 days and all of her gormet accomplishments I really want to get into the kitchen. But, I just recently graduated from college and funds are low and debts are high. I don't have a dehydrator and my blender is definitely not a VitaMix. Keeping it simple has not meant not eating. I live in upstate NY in a very very vey progressive town and there are co-ops vegan and vegetarian resturants. I can fruit (even in the dead of winter) for good prices and almonds are only $3.99/lb at my co-op. My diet thus far has included oranges, nectarines, red pears, green pears, bananas and cantulope. I plan to go shopping again this Sunday for kale and collards and am ready to break out my blender. I have done green smoothies before and I am excited to return to them. I will update this thread if I get more creative with my receipes. I am thinking (craving) a cucumber and tomato salad (saw it in Renee's thread) so that should be up shortly.

And because I've enjoyed it...and some folks want to know....

    Weight Release:

    SW: 153.6 lbs
    GW: 135.0 lbs
    UGW: 125-129.0 lbs

Day 1: 153.6 lbs (PMS Water Retention)
    Day 2: 153.6 lbs
    Day 3: 151.2 lbs
Day 4: 148.0 lbs (PMS Water Release)
    Day 5: 147.4 lbs
    Day 6: 146.2 lbs
    Day 7: 144.0 lbs

"Day 1" was my weight when I woke up on the morning of January 1, 2010 after I used the facilities. I step on the scale each morning right after I use the facilities, right it down and keep it moving. With a good food and exercise, my body will release the weight and it's not something I am going to obsess about. But I know I was curious (and I know others are) so I thought I would document my weigh-ins here.

I'm not counting calories. I work out once a day. I would say that days that I eat more nuts impacts my weightloss more or less but that doesn't always seem to be the case. On Day 4 I literally had a pound (way too much) of nuts and my weight loss the next morning was only .4lbs. Which is still fantastic! But I also ate quite a few nuts on Day 6 and my weightloss for Day 7 was 2.2 lbs. I figure my body is going to do what it wants to do and the best I can do is give it good stuff to do that with. I drink between 2 and 3 liters of water everyday. I started this in 2008 when I was over 200lbs and have found that only drinking water and getting rid of other beverages has helped me tremendoulsy with weight release and has caused marked improvement in my skin and hair.

That's all folks. Good luck to anyone else on the journey! I look forward to reading your updates.
