Raw on the road
Hi everyone, I just thought Id share some moments with you about my trip to Boston.
IÂ’ll be home the 22nd of August but right now we are in Gloucester MA just relaxing at a bed and breakfast on the beach. My sister in law lives next door and thatÂ’s were im hooking up from so im able to get on my computer for a few minutes. As I write im looking out onto the ocean and although the sky is overcast and itÂ’s a bit drizzly here, the ocean breeze and the fresh clean smell of sand and water are wafting through the windows. My sister in law just passed me with a plate of cut up starfruit and stopped to give me a slice. Mmmm, that was good. And a few minutes later she layer out a sliced up pineapple. It was organic and it was one of the best I ever had. So juicy and sweet!
Although she’s not raw she’s really into fruits and veggies and is taking us out tonight to this place that has ‘fabulous salads’.
Yesterday when we got here she made us a salad of fresh cucumbers and tomatoes from her garden and last night we went out and had a great smoothie from this place we found in NH while stocking up on some fruits and nuts for the B&B.
We have our little tribest blender with us and have made some smoothies with protein powder and green powder in the mornings as well.
The first day we arrived we had a lot of business stuff to do but my other sister in law informed us she was making dinner. So although we were kind of cringing at the thought of what we would be eating while everyone else around us was eating a standard American diet, we obliged. My sister in law has two little children and a husband and none of them are ‘into raw’.
Well, what a surprise we had when we sat down to dinner. Very nonchalantly there was put in front of us a green dip with fresh veggies. ‘Hmm, looks like my spinach dip’
I thought. Well, it was and it was REALLY good. Next came corn chowder, followed by tomato-mushroom salad. Toping off the meal was a carrot cake. YUM!!!
I couldnÂ’t believe it! My sister in law had never made anything raw but she had my book and decided to treat us!
What a great surprise. I always have people asking how I stay raw while traveling, and although I lucked out with that homemade raw dinner that first night, it really isnÂ’t very hard. A very little bit of preparation and it can really be a so easy.
One of my clients went to Africa and stayed raw the whole time.
Anybody else have some traveling stories to share while staying raw?
Best,
Alissa

Raw at the rodeo
Just a very short trip - we went to a night rodeo about 70 miles away and didn't have time to eat earlier. I took fruit, manna bread, raw crackers, and your onion dip, Alissa. Everyone else was eating nachos, hot dogs, and having soda and beer. I wanted to be a raw ambassador, but somehow, I don't think it was the best time! People out west seem to be fairly open, though.
I just figure if I'm going to stay raw, I have to not get embarrassed if people look at me funny. I have two weddings coming up - those should be interesting! Hopefully, I won't be there long enough to get hungry.

I went on vacation for a week with my super-carb extended family. They are the kind that makes chicken and noodles over potatoes with dinner rolls. They might add corn. They are also big wine and cracker/cheese people. Well I was quite nervous. My friend made me some banana nut crackers (I was having trouble having success with the dehydrator.) She also made me raw cookies, I packed frozen fruit and nut butters. When they busted out the cocktails I made raw strawberry daquiris and pina colada. I also bought lots of salad fixings.

Yes, interesting story:
My boyfriend and I went to visit some friends in Colorado for a ski weekend.
We hadnÂ’t seen them fro a bout a year and only talked occasionally, as all of our lives got really busy within that year.
So we planned a winter weekend getaway and my boyfriend and I packed a bunch of food since we are both raw and figured there would be nothing much at their place we could eat. We packed all kinds of crackers, cookies and dehydrated goodies.
Well, after flying in we all started to get hungry and our guest said, 'we made you a dinner, but it's probably a little different then you are used to'.
So as my boyfriend and i sat walked into the kitchen we began to tell them that we only eat raw foods and so forth...
Well, minutes later we were eating the most delicious raw food meal.
They had been eating all raw foods for about 2 months due to a scare with one of my friendÂ’s health.
We couldnÂ’t believe it! I pulled out all my goodies that i had made before i left and as you can imagine we all had a lot to talk about that night about our raw experiences.
It was a great weekend full of skiing, food and healthy friendships!

i have only been away a few nights to another raw fooders and my parner who just got in what i wanted..when i go out for the day i make up puddings and take some crackers usually ..for mid afternoon..if i am ouf for tea too i take makings of a salad..which means i take a whole load of stuff with me..
it does feel a mamoth organisation going out for the day..cutting up and making puds but if i was doing sandwiches it would prob take as long eh ? if i am on the train it does mean my bag is heavy beffore i set out !! being out the day is definately the hardest challenge eating raw..when i begun i made sure i took my absolute favourite food and way too much with me..
in the city i end up sat out in the cold on the pavement or seats eating my puds..have yet to find a better way!!
my (other) parner has been overseas and coped ok for a night raw..takes fruit and some dry stuff with her..and has been able to find enough to get by on...dunno for a long time..but i think as you go along you get less scared of being hungry and can always live on water a day or two
