    Question High Fever

I have a friend with a 4 year old little boy. He's spiking fevers almost to 104. She'd like to know how to bring them down without using Tylenol or Motrin. She's bathed him in lukewarm water, but he's still spiked.

What should she do? The family isn't totally raw.

    Thanks!

104 is in the relm of causing brain damage

cold water, Get wash cloths under both armpits, groin, feet, back of neck, and make sure you get a core temp (rectal), put in cold shower

Have a blanket ready ( this does not take long ) because this will cause uncontrolled shaking, check the skin area.

My concern is what is causing the ^ temp, sounds like an infection.

Err on the side of caution and seek medical advice, small kids bounce back well , but after years of working in emergency they can go south in seconds and all the woulda, shoulda.could ofs will not change the bad outcome.

I'll keep her in my prayers!!!!!!!

    Default Thanks, Dawn!

I also had a bit of a "check" about this fever climbing and not coming down. I'll tell her to retreat him with water - call doc - and administer fever reducer.

I don't like the sounds of seizures, either......

    Thanks Again!

My son has gone up to 105.5 without any brain damage or seizures. I never put him in a cold bath as that can actually stimulate his body to increase his temp. in attempts to try and warm his body up from the cold water. I do use luke warm water in the tub. Before trying the water method, I rub him head to foot and that does bring the temperature down somewhat. When you are rubbing, concentrate on the feet for quite some time-has always worked for us. Also try crushed ice (small amounts at a time) via mouth.

He is not my only child to run a high temp. and none of them have ever had a problem with the seizures or brain damage. I also have given tylenol but I have read on someone's journal about a prodcut called Oscillo (Sp) sold at Wal-mart-don't know anything else about it other than it is supposed to help bring fever down and is more of a natural product.

Hoping the little boy is feeling better soon.
