17 year old, psyched to go raw, but have a few concerns?
I live in a dorm, and while I have access to quite an assortment of fruit (thank you commons!) I feel I don't have the RIGHT stuff to succeed.
Can I actually make decent meals out of
bananas, lettuce, tomatoes, oranges, carrots, grapefruit, pineapple, broccoli, and strawberries?
Any other suggestions for a college bound Raw girl who needs to keep up her energy and health?
What have you been eating? What do you consider a "decent" meal? We all need to keep up our energy and health which is why we're here.
You can make many meals out of those foods. I think, though you may be more satisfied if you add the good, healthy raw fats from nuts, seeds, avacadoes and olive oil.
Greens are a very important part of a raw diet, too. Don't let yourself miss those!
Do you have a blender? Smoothies are so quick and filling, they are a perfect breakfast, quick lunch or late night study snack. You can also make savory smoothies and raw soups.
As far as decent meals from those ingredients, I often will have a big bowl of strawberries and bananas or an entire cantaloupe, bowl of oranges etc. Make sure you eat until you are satisfied and not hungry. When I say big bowl I mean like an entire container of strawberries and 4 bananas=)> or more, sometimes.
You'll eventually want to get some spices to make meals and soups from those ingredients, and some other raw foods to balance them out.
I do not have access to nuts, seeds, avacadoes and olive oil.
No blender. No blender allowed in room.
Today, for example, (this is my first day, don't judge too harshly) I had:
bowl of grapes
big salad: lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, cucumbers, mandarin oranges
and felt somewhere between satisfied and full at each.
I just question the amount of nutrients I am getting from eating the same 10 foods all the time.

Welcome and good luck on your RAWNESS journey.

Yes there are many websites with free vegan and vegetarian recipies and snacc ideas.
Try putting up some posters and creating a college club to meet people who can share ideas, support and be freinds etc.
Learn a bit more about raw food and the surrounding topics.
Good luck message me if u need support or advice
I always hear for you
Because most fruits and vegetables are relatively low in calories, and being that you're 17 and need a good deal of energy at this point in your life, not having access to the calorie dense raw foods like nuts, seeds and oils will be tough. My advice for right now is not to stress yourself out on making sure you're eating raw 100% and make sure you get enough calories while eating as much raw food as you can, GOOD LUCK!
nothing wrong with those foods... perhaps see if you can add cantaloupes to the list as they are super healthy. i'd also add some healthy fats as those are an essential part of everyone's diet.
Oh man....I would check out the area and see what else there is to eat. I cert could not make it on those few things. You need to make sure you get enough calories to be healthy. Fats yes...avos n such.
Anyone from home send you a healthy care package?
The whole point about plant proteins is that they're incomplete. ;) That way your body can fit the puzzle pieces together and create a complete protein (pretty much your flesh and other body parts). Putting meat in your body is similar to eating yourself. Those animals people eat are doing what we're supposed to by using plants as a protein source.

I'm so excited for you! Congratulations on what I'm sure will be a RAWmazing journey!!
Oh, and I second the recommendation for all of the free raw food websites. Also, consider checking out RF "uncook" books from your library. A lot of times if they are not already in stock they will order them because of the interest in them. The last year for me has been amazing and while those 10 foods may feel limiting, you will be amazed at just how much you can do with them! I find myself being amazed with each new recipe I learn.
The Magic Bullet blender sounds like a great compromise for a dorm room.
Be blessed and Rawk on! :)
