I think it's a variation on yoga. I'm pretty sure. Maybe yoga and martial arts?

Budokan is a convention center and training complex built by the Japanese government for Budo (martial arts) studies. So, when someone is going to the Budokan they are going to a place of learning martial arts. How is is a "big Hollywood thing"?

Founded by martial arts master, yoga teacher and lifestyle coach Cameron Shayne in 2002, Budokon is a holistic training method that combines the classical martial arts, hatha yoga, meditation and optimal nutrition all designed to explore the maximum potential of the mind and body. By exploring the physical, emotional and spiritual body through movement, diet and meditation, the student works toward achieving truly sustainable health, wellness and personal power.
Budokon is both a teaching method as well as a certified training system.

The method allows a person of any gender or level of physical health to explore the martial arts and yoga in a safe non-competitive environment. During a Budokon class the emphasis is placed soley upon body organization, alignment, technique, core development, and concentration.

The training system is designed to offer the opportunity of dual black belt and yoga teacher certifications from the ancient perspective of wisdom, clarity and self-mastery, as opposed to that of intellect, aggression and physical power. The Budokon philosophy is best expressed in the belief that one must develop power in stillness (yoga), power in movement (martial arts), and power in emptiness (meditation).

Both the Budokon method and training system reflect back upon
the ancient training systems of the Buddhist monks, where martial arts, yoga, holistic health and meditation were a natural part of daily life.

The Budokan Judo Club in Tel-Aviv Israel has been active for 20 years.
The Budokan Academy has been in Austrailia has been around since 1988.

Budokan is a place which tends to teach a variety of Japanese styles.

The definition of "budo" is the way of the combat". Judo, aikido, jujitsu are all forms of budo. The budokan seems to be the place where they teach/learn. Here's more:

Cameron Shane spells it Budokon. It is normally spelled Budokan. *shrugs* Since you mentioned Hollywood, could be where your friend is going.

wow, you guys love research, eh? Cool!

Actually, I found Cameron's "Budokon" website and ordered his soon to be released DVD set titled "Budokon for Weight Loss". I ordered that cause I"m interested in his philosophy about the mind aspect of that, and it breaks down his workout routine into 20, 30 and 40 minute formats, which I would like in order to build up to the 40 min. one. I actually ordered in at Amazon.com where it was only $18 for 2 DVD"s, a booklet and something else-can't remember what. THAT Is a GREAT deal for ANY informational DVD. I can't wait to try it. My friend says she loves it. ~peace

theresann, I got Cameron Shane's "Beginning Practice" when it first came out and *loved* it! I study martial arts, so that may be partly why. Even though it's a beginning dvd (with only about 10 minutes of martial arts), it is the only workout dvd/video I've ever enjoyed, actually done, and would recommend. I despise pretty much all workout dvd's :) If anyone ever flirted with the idea of doing martial arts, this is a fantastic way to get a feel for it. It's very basic, beginner moves, but also very effective. I'm way past that level, but I do it anyway. As with most exercises, it's the effort you put into each move that matters most.

I got an email from him not too long ago about his new one coming out -- I guess it's the one you're referring to. I don't have it, but he is a great instructor; so I'd get it!
It is a good, well-rounded approach to working out. I wish he had a studio near me; I'd join in a N.Y. minute :)

    Cool weight loss workout

yea, for workout music, you basically need hard-hitting euro-dance music.... nothing else does the job

really. Search around on iTunes for "euro club hits" or check this link:
