    Default Doing something right here!

After what seems like forever, since I'm post-menopausal, my waist is finally starting to shrink - Woo Hoo! My pants are a little looser, the ones that are usually a bit tight fresh out of the wash. I am so-o thrilled! Been pumping those Blend-tec green smoothies and raw in general(lots of fruit, by the way)and been hitting it hard at the gym including some interval training for my cardio. And no, I haven't been "counting calories, fats, or carbs" either. It's paying off, and I can see some definition in my shoulders that I haven't seen in awhile(body composition changes). Biggest thrill though is those looser pants, as this heading towards getting my old body back, but better, since now it is built on raw! Still a few more pounds and inches, but at least it's moving in the right direction. So yes, ladies of a certain age, it IS possible to ditch the post-menopausal weight and tummy pooch!
A great t-shirt for raw gym goers like me would be "Built on Greens" - LOL! DH even noticed my shoulders today when we were at the gym, and I told him that it was the Master Sculptor at work, chipping away with a chisel, one line of definition at a time, God's work through getting in line with natural law and doing the work. RAW RAWKS!

I'd love to hear a little more... I know you've been around for awhile... but I'm wondering how long you've been raw and all sorts of other good stuff.

The reason is, I have a client who is in her 70's and looks like she's in her 50's. She went from vegan to raw. She has "only" lost a couple pounds over the last month of raw food... It sounds like your experience could be an encouragement to keep it up...

    Thank you for sharing!!

How long did it take you being raw and working out before you started losing inches in your waist? Glad to hear that raw is working from the inside out :)

To Eva: What kind of details do you wish to know, other than how long I've been raw? How long has your 70-year old been raw? Weight release can go VERY VERY slow after menopause, even with a good diet and exercise program, like ounces at a time it seems, even if one doesn't have a lot to lose. For exercise stuff you can look under some older threads under fitness or over-50 maybe for stuff I've written about the importance of solid workouts too. Although I've been back at a gym solidly for almost 3 years, I've only been basically raw since a year and a half, and not always 100%. Before that, I lived way out in a rural area with no gym access, but a very rudimentary weight set-up at home, plus I did distance-walking and outdoor work. I do a lot of green smoothies, and aside from my raw ice-creams, extremely few raw desserts. I don't eat coconut oil, or massive quantities of other even healthy fats. A serving of overt fat for me might be a handful of nuts, or half of a small avocado, a couple of seed crackers, or a teaspoon of olive oil on a salad. Most of the time, I dress my salads with just lemon or lime juice.
to sweettangerine: I lost a couple of pounds 3 months in, but not inches. It's only been with the last couple of months that I've noticed anything inch-wise, and a few more pounds. Lost a total of 6 pounds, would like to lose at least 4-5 pounds more, along with another inch or so off the waist and bustline(would like to lose from a 34C back to my old 34B which looks better on me). Any extra fat around the waist at all is dangerous especially post menopause because it messes with one's blood sugar, and can be implicated in the risk of several different cancers, plus a rise in cholesterol. My weight when I started was 118(I'm just shy of 5'5"), which doesn't sound like very much for my height, but the combo of a very delicate bone structure(not Asian, by the way)and a short torso means that any extra pounds, even 5-10, show up on me, whereas it might take gaining 15-20 pounds to show on someone else. I think those few pounds were also enough to skew my fingerprick blood tests that I had last year that said I had high cholesterol(220) and a slightly-elevated blood sugar reading. Weight is so implicated in both of these, and some of us don't have much leeway - some of us really do have to be thinner than the population at large in order to remain healthy. I was very slim for many years, and didn't gain those few pounds until several years past menopause.
But after all of the above, I AM pleased that things are moving in a positive direction!
