    Default My dog has anxiety...bad!

Ok so my dog (american bulldog) has bad anxiety. He chases his tail, chews it, makes it bleed. He chews his feet until they are red, and paints constantly. I walk him, run, him play ball outside with him. I am just wondering if him going raw would maybe help his anxeity? He eats organic food and I have just started him on Bach's Rescue Remedy. My vet wants to put him on anti depressants which I DO NOT agree with. I don't know what next step I should take. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions please let me know!

    Thanks!!!

call the dog whisperer!!!! (not being funny or sarcastic)... he's good with animals.. maybe even watching his show could benefit you. :) also "it's me or the dog" is a beneficial show.

Maybe it's not anxiety, but parasites. I think going raw would definitely help your dog with either anxiety or parasites.

The Whole Dog Journal is a great dog magazine where you can search their on-line archives for articles on anxiety. I know they published an anxiety article in the not-too-distant past.

I dont' find that Rescue Remedy always does the greatest job for anxiety. It's more for shock and trauma. I have however, successfully used flowers to make pets more comfortable. I would look at aspen, mimulus, cherry plum, chestnut bud, maybe chicory and definitely white chestnut. Hope that helps!

If this happens more when you're not home, keep the radio playing soft music at at low volume. Look up Reiki for dogs, try some EFT tapping.

We feed raw. It's so easy. All my previous dog's allergy symptoms went away feeding raw.

I really recommend finding a breed-specific raw forum. (But failing that, a general raw-feeding list.)

Chewing of feet is a very common allergy symptom. (It occurs to me that maybe he was already chewing his feet some because of allergies, and fastened onto that behaviour as a nervous habit, since he has other nervous habits.) There are many other symptoms that will go away with a raw diet. Try it! :) Even if it's not the total cure for all of your dog's symptoms, it'll be a MAJOR step forward to health and wellness. Dogs do not need to be eating some of the things that are in the commercial dog foods!

Treating for vaccinosis also can take away some symptoms. I recommend a homeopathic vet. (All aside from liking the dog whisperer.) HTH! :)
