    Default Cantelope question..

I know you're supposed to eat cantelope by itself, but what if you have it in a smoothie with other fruit? Is that still improper food combining?

(Just like you're supposed to eat veggies and fruits separately, but it's beneficial to add greens to fruit smoothies..)

This won't be much help, but I have no idea =] I'd say give it a try! I used a mango once and it worked great. Trial and error I guess =] But I'm sure there's someone here who is more help than me haha

See how your body feels. Trial and error. For some it's optimal to have it alone, and some can freely eat it with other foods. You decide what's best for you!

The only thing I ever mix melons with (besides other melons) are berries or cucumbers and sometimes lime. Cantaloupe and blueberries is good. Honeydew and cucumber is good. I also like watermelon and a hint of lime or some mint leaves. Intuitively, I've just never felt like melon would go well with anything besides these foods.

I mix my cantaloupe with bananas and greens in smoothies. Never had a problem.

Thanks everyone... I want to mix it with bananas, berries and spinach. I have an 'iron' stomach, so think I should be ok!

I think the only reason it is considered "improper food combining" is because it takes less time than other foods to digest. The story goes melons are pre-digested and pass right through the stomach. If mixed with other foods they will stay in the stomach longer and may start to ferment.

Some sad eaters will have melon with or after a meal, then complain they can't eat melons because they burp it up later. Yeah, thats because it is fermenting in their stomach.

Since your not mixing anything but watery fruits and some greens in your smoothie that shouldn't be a problem.

I love to blend canteloupe or honeydew with a big handful of fresh mint. So refreshing!

    Hope you enjoy(ed) your smoothie
