Default Caution: Newbie on Board w/Questions

Hi, everyone! I just signed up, so I thought this would be a good place for my first post.

I'm 55, post-menopausal (), and was diagnosed with Type II diabetes last year. No insulin, only Metformin. I discovered Raw after watching the documentary on reversing diabetes. Doctor is on board with reservations as diabetic nutritionist's recommended diet is identical to South Beach Phase 2. Requires me to take a multivitamin for insurance.

I'm doing fruit for the first half of the day, and veggies the second half. I am consciously choosing one or two cooked foods (no starches as I do better with low carbs) per day, usually a low carb yogurt and/or some oily fish. Drinking a lot of water. Yesterday I started experimenting with green smoothies using kale as the base. Blood sugar not spiking, so doctor is happy so far.

Everything I've read so far advises to transition slowly as to not suffer nasty side effects. So far everything has been humming along digestively. Am I just lucky or is there a little time bomb waiting down the road? What exactly should I be looking for?

I'm really looking forward to hearing from other folks on the board. I've been lurking for a few days, but couldn't find what I was looking for.

    Welcome.
    Have you seen this movie.
You can get rid or your diabetes by going completely raw vegan but I do not know if your diet will fix it.
Look at this and see what you think but do what you are comfortable with.

Yes, this is the documentary that I watched. Wish I could afford to go there, but I can't. I am headed to AZ next week though, and may try to see if I can get down there.

But you do not need to go anywhere. You can do it all at home. Join the 30 day challenge here and see if there is a difference.

You are making a Great Choice to go RAW. There is NO need to go slowely, as Sport says join the 30 Day Challenge and you can rid yourself by then. Green Smoothies are another Great way of Healing yourself. Save your Trip Money and use it on Fresh RAW Food.

You have all the Support you need Right here because there are diabetics or former ones here. There are lots of old Post that you might be interested in. I am also glad you are getting a hold on it early. Type 2 is the easiest to controll because its usually diet and weight.

Actually going slowly is better as you often won't experience any or as much detox. You can heal yourself completely on your own and without spending a lot of money.

The trip to AZ is to see family, but I thought as long as I was in the area, I might try to get down to the Tree of Life place. Also, there's a store or two where I might be able to pick up some supplies I can't get where I live here in rural Virginia.

I make this trip about once a year, so the TSA is used to seeing me take weird stuff back and forth. I'll be carrying out fresh strawberries from my garden along with a couple of tomato plants. I've promised one of my little grandsons that I will help him start some "food plants."

I'm still trying to eat as much raw as possible, but am planning on a few cooked foods during the trip. I'm not sure how much I'll even feel like eating at all while I'm out there anyway--far too hot for my tastes!
