I feel off again from raw (although not nearly as bad as last time) and I needed to read this as well. You are right, I really need to come into raw with a new attitude. Last time around I was bringing in a lot of negativity and was fixated on losing fat. All I could think about was fat. So what did I do? I ate too much fat and I didn't move a muscle! I am looking outside today and it is a beautiful sunny Washington day and I am sitting inside. Time to grab those rollerblades and hit the trail! Thanks again, your posts are always inspirational to those who are struggling. You always just say it like it is, and I admire you for that.

Every since my raw vegan journey began, I have followed Alissa's most simple suggestion of: just eat. It hasn't steered me wrong and increasing my fats (of course raw vegan) has benefited me in too many ways to name...
There is no measuring for me unless I'm on a tight budget and trying to stretch a food item. It's a good thing to know what works for your body... I eat my avocados, olive oils and everything else with no worries and have noticed that my metabolism seems to be at its best when I just eat with good old common sense. For me, eating fat means eating fit but that just confirms for me that my body was deprived from healthy fats for the longest time in my old standard american diet eating days. I also just focus on eating a balance of everything...no yummy veggies or fruits are off limits to me... some of my raw vegan friends mono eat - like we're talking 20 bananas a day for a week and then switching over to something else which in my own opinion is just silly. I've done enough dieting in my lifetime and now I just focus on trying to eat what I know is best for my body's health and longetivity. I refuse to make raw vegan living anything similiar to a diet. The only thing I have noticed in my almost 3 year journey is that too many dehydrated foods give me the same reaction as eating SAD starchy chips or something like that. So like I said, it's all about good old common sense. I love everyone's posts and how we have all grown and really learned to listen to our bodies and know what's best for us as individuals in this raw vegan journey.....

thanks, Revvell~
I too have been going through a body transformation for the last 8 months. At 44, it took me 6 months of consistent, tough workouts 3-5X/week, plus a pretty clean vegan diet (about 75% raw) to start seeing real results. Now, at 8 months, I have gone from a tight size 10 to a 4. But it really took some time!
I've tried to workout before, and would get really frustrated after a few months not losing fat fast enough, but this time I stuck with it and I'm so glad that I did.
My experience is that we HAVE to build up a good base of lean muscle tissue to really lose fat, cause the muscle burns so many calories and stokes the metabolism. Adding raw or high raw to that, well, we can really transform to the cellular level, and reverse aging as well as lose fat.
Its so fun to see this process unfold!! I also appreciate your message about hydration-I too have found that to be so so important. Thank you!

I'm not talking about measuring, counting calories, dieting (in the new sense of the word) or worrying about anything or any fruits or vegetables being off-limits. What I am talking about is choosing MY food over HIS food which, when I open the fridge, is in my face. THAT's when I say FAT or FIT? HIS food makes me FAT!
PLUS, I've found, when first going raw, fat/excess weight disappeared easily. Going on and off, after awhile, it doesn't do that anymore. Also, being over 60 tends to make a difference for many of us. So, FAT or FIT? We choose to eat better, get up and MOVE, get enough rest, and get the mindset focused on what we want, not what we don't want.

I can relate. I use to see a MAJOR difference in just 6 weeks but then, I was focused on the training. This time, I've changed my focus and now, changed it back to FITness!

Absolutely!

Yesssss!

Moreso than I've ever realized. Thank you!

Just to clear up... I got that you were talking about HIS food choices; should have clarified that - think its pretty safe to say that you've got a good grip on this experience/journey or however you define this thing that we can raw veganism...
just adding my 2 cents in on the various concepts around fit vs. fat in the raw vegan world because I hear so much of what I mentioned under the guise of fit vs. fat....
It's like I said before, it's good to see all the various responses on how we are learning to listen to our bodies- cause they really do talk!

I'm focusing on the fit right now as well. I could keep looking at the scale (that keeps going up and down w/in the same 4 pound range) and I will from time to time (because of the $$$ hubby's giving me at my milestones). BUT, right now, I'm more excited about and focusing on how I'm getting better at my workouts, how my jeans are getting loose (the SKINNY jeans at that), and how my legs are taking shape. :)
I ran yesterday, not a lot, and my shins are hating me for it today, but I RAN! I was told by the doctors when I was leaving the Army that I shouldn't run because of my knees and the issues I had with them and my hips (I'd over-compensate for my knees and get stress fractures in my hip). And I RAN yesterday and it felt GREAT!
So yeah, I think I'll focus on fit! It's so much more fun!

Thanks so much for this, Revvell. I love hearing your perspective on things. Love it, love it, love it. And very timely for me, too! Thank you! You're awesome!

Hmmm back to the fridge one last time. I choose fit. As in a glass of water and a few pieces of iceberg for my night tiem crunch factor.
Hmmm
Why wait til Tuesday?!?!??
It is, therefore, evident that it is possible to cure by foods, aliments and fruits; but as today the science of medicine is imperfect, this fact is not yet fully grasped. When the science of medicine reaches perfection, treatment will be given by foods, aliments, fragrant fruits and vegetables, and by various waters, hot and cold in temperature.

Good job. All you've got is this moment.
I ended up having a salad with greens, spinach, tomatoes, red bells peppers and sliced strawberries. I think that's it for this evening ~ and fluid. Gots to have fluid before bed.

Another component of the Fat or Fit program (and, understand something, some people who are overweight or carrying extra fat, can definitely be in better shape than many of us who are thinner)... is MOVEMENT!
Granted, you don't HAVE to do the things I do which are kettlebells, clubbells, macebells, Bulgarian training bags, etc. BUT, the body was made to move. I've found that getting up every 2-3 hours (I've tried EVERY hour but, that's too stringent and if I'm in the middle of something...), going downstairs and doing SOMEthing ~ bodyweight movement; running up and down the stairs 3-6 times (or more); taking a walk around the block; swinging a club or mace; 5 minutes of rebounding ~ SOMEthing ~ will help keep the metabolism going.
Soo, get up, get down, get FIT!

So, yesterday, I purchased a fairly high-priced pedometer. I had a small collection of the cheap ones, wore 3 of them one time and still couldn't get an accurate count so did a search on Amazon and chose one. We'll see how it goes. Should be in by Friday.
I'm planning on adding the 10,000 step thing to my program.
Anyone with me on this program? Tell us what you're doing to go from Fat to Fit?
I'll have Himself do some vids of me ~ possibly today ~ doing some of my work out. Yesterday, didn't feel to do the heavier weights, so did the mace and 2# Indian clubs.
So now, I'm out for a walk! Oh! When I come back, going to drink some oj/water. Just had a lil to refresh myself after not having anything to drink for about 8 hours or so.

I finally paid for a personal trainer to get me back into weights. She's got me doing squats, dead lifts and bench press. Between the three you are using pretty much every muscle in the body. Its an awesome workout. I am lifting more weight now at 51 than I ever have. Amazing.
I do need to up my cardio as well. HIIT - high intensity interval training. You can get an intense workout in 15-20 minutes. I just need to DO IT.
FAT or FIT??
Raw for TODAY
