Any other cancer-fighting newbies here?
I was diagnosed with vaginal cancer November 2004, have had all the conventional treatments (radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery) but now cancer has spread to liver, lungs, kidneys, hip and shoulderblade, though I feel well in myself when I've not just had chemo. My sister heard a British raw food nutritionist, Pat Reeves, speak at a vegan fair and bought her book, and she has convinced me to try this "living food" diet. Apparently, because my cancer is Stage 4, at least 50% of what I eat for the rest of my life must be sprouted seeds, I must overdose on Vitamin C and drink as much proper fresh juice as I can afford.
I have ordered a Vitalmax juicer, an Excalibur dehydrator and an Easygreen sprouter online, and have come to the UK to stock up on organic seeds, CoQ10 and probiotics, but return to my rural home in France tomorrow. I want to try to convert completely to a raw/living food diet, as I believe it may save my life. I have been vegetarian most of my life and love fruit and veg, although I think I will miss pizza, curry and chocolate.
I am 52 - it is a big change! I need recipes and moral support! Am I in the right place to get these? Is there a forum like this specifically for cancer patients? I am on 2 forums already for women with gyneacological cancers, but they haven't yet discussed the raw food diet. I posted to a very highly regarded British cancer website, just wanting to hear experiences of people who had tried a "cancer beating diet", and my post was removed by the administrators because "it is not possible to beat cancer through diet alone".
I'd be interested to hear from anyone who has been in a similar position to my own.

Hi Deb,
Welcome to Raw Food Talk. I'm neither a cancer patient nor an over 50, but I just wanted to say hello and welcome.
From everything I've read about raw foods and cancer (which, admittedly isn't a whole lot) it seems that a diet heavy in greens (particularly green juices) is the way to go. I've heard of several raw vegan cancer survivors doing extended green juice fasts to eradicate the cancer.
Hugs and prayers to you on this journey.
Be blessed!!!

Welcome to this community...I'm relatively new here, and have found these people are very friendly & helpful.
I agree with drinking plenty of green juices, as they are both detoxifying and nourishing.
Believe in your body's ability to heal itself!
Good luck & Best Wishes,
Michele

14 years ago upon my father coming down with cancer i started studying the topic , and heres my outlook . but im not a medical person , or right up to date on the matter so dont think im saying that . ive just done alot of reading as a long term vegan into holistics then raw , on diet / nutrition / ailments
- its said that youve got to get the body chemistry into an alkaline state , in an alkaline state cancer cells cant thrive
- dark greens and wheat grass juice are great to get alkaline , the late ann wigmore healed thousands of cancer on wheat grass juice therapy . wheat grass is super simple and cheap to grow , just get some wheat seed and cover it with quarter inch of dirt and water . like contessa says long term green juice fasts to wash out the disease
- raw plants / raw juices / water are all ide ingest . if eating other my first heated option would be lightly steamed vegi . second would be vegi broths / soups . and if i were still breaking back towards cooked ide add dry beans to the soups
- and heres a great thread with great links on cancer =
http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthrea...calling+angels ..
ps - in that thread theres alot of holistically knowledgable people that provided links to some of the greatest cancer healers on planet , ide study that thread over and over
* keep hanging out here . people are very nice and shall supply info .
also check out www.juicefeasting.com because theres no doubt people juice fasting there to clear their cancerous cells . weve been eating wrong as a society and fouled our bodies up with pollution that chokes off vital circulation to our cells , in these choked off states our cells become weakly and susceptable to disease . and our wrongful diets have also put our chemistry in a wrongful / unhealthy / acidic state in which cancer can thrive , dark green juice fasts clear the tract of solids making it easier for the body to flush out pollution and damaged cells . plus giving the digestive tract a break from breaking down solids gives the body more energy to break down and flush out pollution and germs , while the alkaline dark green juices give the cells what they need to suffocate out the cancer cells
SPRING / SUMMER / FALL COMING IS PERFECT TIME TO GROW / GARDEN WHAT YOU NEED , AND TO JUICE FAST / CLEANSE . THEN WHEN YOU HEAL TEACH OTHERS !!!!!!!!!!!

welcome,
yes you are in a good, caring, knowledgable place to get info.
i am 45 and was diagnosed with MS in 1999. i am new to raw but have high hopes that i will heal.
i suggest watching the DVD FoodMatters. it talks a lot about cancer being defeated by this as well as IV injections of VERY hi doses of vitamin C, which had only the side affects of being thirsty and feeling slightly woozy. it also speaks of doctors (here) being legally restricted from discussing "nutrient therapy" (diet changes) and that is really disturbing that the pharm companies would feel threatened so much that a law restricts this topic. traditional cancer treatment is a very lucrative business. alos check ou the Gershon (sp??) Institute which is very successful in curing cancer thru diet/vitamins.
ask this list any questions you have, if nobody knows thye will direct you to a source that does, & search the archives b/c somebody just posted the other day about a cancer winner that won thru raw.
goodluck. best wishes in your fight.

All I can say is I truly believe in the body's innate ability to keep itself well and heal itself when its sick provided it is supported with the conditions needed for good health like fresh air, sunshine, exercise, clean food and water, rest, and a harmonious mind. I wish you a complete recovery and good health.

Hi Deb,
I had Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2002. I had conventional chemo treatment, but refused radiation, because of the increased risk of future lung cancer in patients who receive both. Since then, I have read many books and found loads of sources online for alternatives. (I wish I had this information in 2002, I would not have undergone surgery or chemo.) The BEST source I found is http://www.cancertutor.com , which is especially useful for people with recurring cancer who do not want to undergo more conventional treatments. It's a huge website and you can spend days reading, but it's worth it. I assume I have remained cancer free, but I refuse CT scans since they themselves can cause cancer. I get annual blood tests to see how my liver is doing.
IMO, being raw vegan is the first step to getting your body back to balance and health. Your cells contain all the chemo etc. toxins, so it's important to drink lots of fresh juices, as much carrot/apple juice and green juice as possible.
I wish you the BEST.
To Your Health!

Hi Deb! Welcome, I am so glad that you are taking your health into your own hands. I have had friend's parents die of cancer, but not had it personally.
I think you should get some information from anoasisofhealing.com 480 834 5414 They are a raw food cancer clinic.
I read a story about them in this magazine http://api.ning.com/files/h02x7XaNpW...lianmuller.pdf It's on page 42 of the pdf.
I was absolutely blown away that there are people in the medical community who are practicing this and it is not very well known. I hope that can give you some guidance and help. :)
Also you could look into natural healing like reiki too to help boost your bodies ability to heal itself, with diet i think that would help tremendously.

hi--
dont know if this helps, but there is also a forum at www.healingwiseforums.com on cancer and herbs. its not a raw website, but the herbal stuff may be helpful, and adding in stuff such as herbal infusions will give you more nutrients.

I recently was told about asparagus and cancer. You might want to google that. Seems it helps cure cancer by the info available. Some are adding asparagus to their juicing as an anti-cancer protection.

Deb, my God bless you with long life on this earth. An Oasis of Healing is a fabulous place, but it is in America. Which may be out of your ability. Go to www.foodmatters.tv. You should watch this film. You can view it online for $4.95 USD or purchase the DVD. It teaches so much, and raw foods and natural healing is the basis.
Also, research the Gerson Institute. Charlotte Gerson is in the documentary FoodMatters.

Lorraine Day, drday.com and George Malkmus, hacres.com also overcame their cancers using living and raw foods as a primary tool.
Curezone.com also has information on addressing cancer with natural modalities.
Wishing you vibrant health

Many, many thanks for all the warm welcomes, and humble apologies for not having acknowledged them sooner. I went away petsitting to a place where I am normally able to access the Internet, only to find that they had taken their laptop with them, and I didn't know the code for getting my own laptop working there on wifi - so I was without the Net, which was very frustrating, as I was looking forward to the extra time to do some research on all those links you sent me!
Anyway, I am now at a different petsit, where I am allowed to use their laptop, and as it's only 2 cats and some chickens, I should have plenty of time for research! I have brought my juicer and sprouter with me, and thankfully there is a blender here - so I am kind of "up and running". In a way it is easier being here on my own, as at home my partner and our helper (we are HelpX hosts) were eating "normal" cooked foods, and although they did try to "protect" me from the delicious aromas, it did give me cravings! Here there is only food on the TV to make my mouth water - and the tinned tuna they feed to one of the cats!
I do feel a bit "at sea" with so much information, some of which seems to be conflicting. I have upped my liquid intake, including green juices, and am growing wheatgrass which I will juice when it looks tall enough - but I only have the 5 trays and am sprouting seeds as well, so can see I won't manage to produce enough wheatgrass juice for my needs using just the one "Easygreen" - may try the jam jar method, any handy hints for that?
I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow, at which I'll get the results of the CT scan I had on 16th April, and find out whether I must have more chemo. I'm not brave enough to turn my back on conventional medicine if they think they can still help me, although I can see chemo could be counter-productive as it destroys the immune system whereas the living food diet is supposed to augment it. Hopefully at worst they will just cancel one another out, rather than the chemo allowing the cancer to get the upper hand.
What I need now is to research more, both info and recipes. But I just wanted to express my thanks to you all before you thought I was rude and unappreciative!

Any other cancer-fighting newbies here?
Go and check out Brenda Cobb's story - she had an absolutely awful family profile of a whole lot of her relatives getting breast and other reproductive cancers, and she at the age of 50 was diagnosed with the very same. All of these relatives went the traditional route, and ended up dead anyway. She is 60 now, and absolutely refused to believe her old doctor's prognosis that she would be dead in 6 months if the she didn't do the whole nine yards of chemo, surgery and radiation. This is fresh in my mind, because I have been at the New Living Expo all weekend(as attendee)and just heard a 45-minute talk by her today. Google her, and you will find her story, and her Living Foods Institute. Best of luck in your healing endeavors!
