I'm starting my transitioning to Raw this week-I've been doing so much research over past few months and I finally decided to take the plunge. I've convinced my best friend to go along with me also-my motive is weight loss and wanting an overall clean feeling (skin, mind, body). She, on the other hand, is a tiny little thing and doesn't need to lose weight-she's just supporting me-but she'll probably ditch it after a few days (loves her cinnamon toast crunch). This will be a real challenge for me I know right now because I love meat. A lot. But this is the summer before I turn 16, and I don't want to spend the rest of my life overweight.
I'm a 15 year old girl-I live in ENY, Brooklyn-not Park Slope where I can get everything organic and healthy and run everyday. Which sucks. But I'm ridding myself of excuses-I'm gonna start jump-roping for 5-10 minutes(most likely the former) every morning before I leave for school, along with 50 crunches, 50 pushups, 50 squats, 50 tricep dips, and 50 jumping jacks every morning and night. Hopefully that, along with the new eating lifestyle, will jump start my "hot body for the summer".
I will gladly welcome any advice on how to transition, how to stay raw when money is scarce, etc. I have a blender only. And an oven-no dehydrator.
Heaviest Weight: 235lbs
Current Weight: 220lbs
Lowest recent weight: 212lbs
Goal(for now):180lbs(or whenever i can start seeing my muscle under the fat)
Welcome! Great that you'll have some support.
The best way to stick with exercise is to find things you really enjoy.
Good luck. :)
Hi rahrawrah, welcome to this forum. You're 15, that's brilliant that you are taking an interest in your health at that age, because I know that when I was 15, only 3 years ago, I didn't care to much for what I ate. So well done of doing this:)
Your friend needn't worry about losing weight, going raw - if you eat the correct foods, whatever size you are - big or small - raw will leave you at the optimum weight. So if she is underweight she may gain to become the perfect weight for her body and if someone is overweight they will become the right size for their body. You will detox too, either way.
Good luck with this, I don't have a dehydrator either, but I get a long just fine. If you find it hard to go 100% raw at first, you can still be 80% raw or mostly raw at least this will deter you from thinking "all or nothing".
=) Good luck, again!!
Welcome!! I wish you the best of rawesome health!!
Welcome ! Your a smart girl, wish I had transitioned when I was your age :)

Thats incredible that you are starting at this age to be aware of your health! Congratulations. I didn't start reading about raw foods til i was 17 and have tinkered on and off with it more or less and im so glad to be living this way now. I wish you all the best and don't let anyone discourage you. I tried to do it when i was living at home and my family did not support me and were very negative, it made it easier to give up and i wish i had not. But its in the past and it's so great to start eating right at a young age. you will see. :)
Starting weight: 138lbs

Welcome and good luck on your RAWNESS journey.
I would also purchase Alissa Cohen's book and DVD. It has a wealth of information that will help you along with your journey.
Wow, you are only 15 and so wise already. I am very impressed. I am only 7 days into Raw myself. I also love meat. I am a former Atkins dieter. My worst day was day 5. I really expected to have a longer transition.
Would you believe I am already getting positive comments on my skin?
Welcome, I have found everyone very support and considerate here.
Welcome to the site. It's great to have you here :)

I lived near that part of Brooklyn for a few years(off Van Siclen on the J), hey! Have you been to any of the health food stores in the city? You can take the L train and pretty much get to all of them, there is Whole Foods at Union Square, along with the wonderful Green Market (M, W, F & Sat) both places are great for fresh & frozen fruits & veggies, specialty items, etc , Trader Joes is east a bit from WF on 14th also, Integral Yoga Natural Foods is great for bulk items, it is on 13th St between 7th & 8th. In Brooklyn, there is Perelandra, and they deliver, if you have the extra ten bucks. Their link: http://www.perelandranatural.com/ret...9F041471DA11FE
I'm not sure if you are allowed to travel alone to Manhattan, but I felt it was worth a mention. Also, have you checked for the raw food support groups in NYC? I know there are quite a few...I will try to find some links for you.
As for being broke, I know all about that. The cheapest raw foods are: kale! (cheap because of the nutrients/dollar - you have to dress it up and it makes a wonderful salad), carrots, sunflower seeds, flaxseeds, bananas. You have to know where to buy what...I can type you up something more comprehensive later today. You are almost old enough to get a little job...if you can, you could get one working at a natural food store, which would give you a discount on the food & access to extras (see, you have to make friends with the produce manager, like I did when I was at Integral Yoga, shhhh).
Best of luck & feel free to contact me if you need support
It's great to have you here....be sure to read Alissa's book and watch her DVD. They will really give you alot of essential tools to doing raw right. Good luck.

Mmmm. I feel so ashamed to be back on here. I fell off the wagon, and now i'm gaining weight. It's like I'm addicted to food. Junk food, rich cooked food, whatever it is, I eat when I'm bored, or to get comfortable. I really want to stay raw, but it's so hard when I don't do the shopping for the house. All i have right now are raw peanuts, raisins, onions, garlic, and pepper.
I checked out that Perelandra link-and it seems quite nice. I think I'll take your advice about looking for jobs at health food stores-maybe one closer to me. Thanks for your help :)
everyone caves !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
