Default Problems with Running and Headaches

    Peace to all,

Ok. I've had this problem for a long time, and its still noticeable even with me being raw. I usually do running maybe 2-3 days out of the week. And EVERYTIME that i run (usually a jog about 2 miles, sprinting the final few yards) i wind up with an annoying and painful sinus headache. The headache is always on the same side of my head, the right side. And that's with ANY sinus headache that i may get.
It doesn't matter what time of day that i run or even how i feel after i run, which is usually very clear headed and optimal. Some time later in the same day, the headache will come. For instance, i got up early around 6 this morning and ran my 2 miles, and i felt fine all the while at work. It wasn't until around 4-5 that i began to feel the headache coming on, and then it just increased steadily until it reaches its peak. It really affects me whenever i stand up instantly. Its very very annoying, and no matter what i do it continues to happen.

I've thought of every possible "cure" that i could think of to prevent this. I always am conscious to double up on the amount of water and fruits that i eat soon after running to replenish my body. But i swear, i've tried just about everything and i'm getting very discouraged because i see no signs of progress.

Has anyone else experienced this, or can offer any possible suggestions???
I really enjoy running, but i mean, i don't wanna have to deal with these headaches! And i don't wanna just abandon my cardio work. I've tried other cardio activities, but they just don't seem to equal out quite the same way as running. And i have a desire to get to the bottom of this.
Thanks for any possible feedback, as usual.

Hmm, I am wondering if you need some structural work? You might be out of alignment, so when you run your aggravating the shoulder/neck area. If you are not into chiropractic treatment you might try a Rolfer/Structural Integrator. I do massage, and people do feel much better afterwards, but if it is structural then...you need someone who is equipped to handle the skeletal system.

You say you double up on water and fruits "after" running. Ever drank (drunk?) 6-8 oz. "before" and had a bottle of water and sipped "while"?

    Peace Revvell,

I don't drink as much water before as opposed to after. But i guess i'll give that one a try as well. From the Knowledge i've gathered, i'd say that its a lot better to run on an empty stomach (that's solid food, that is).
I'll definitely try that one out though with the water and fruits beforehand.

AS far as chiro work, i'd LOVE to get into that, because i definitely Know that i'm not eually as balanced as i should be. Thanks for the responses.

I don't know exactly. Is there a way i can easily check that.?
My guess is that it's a lot better than normal, since i'm relatively young, i'm eating raw, and regularly exercise.

Universal, you can get it checked at the doctors office and you can buy a machine for around $50 (give or take) at your local pharmacy. Even though you are young and fit, you may have high blood pressure due to many things like salt intake or medication (birth control pills, for example) or just plain ole' genetics -among other things. You may also have low blood pressure (although headache is usually associated with high blood pressure),

Whatever you do, if this persists SEE YOUR DOCTOR!! It may be nothing (which is probable) but it may be a sign of something serious (like an anurism waiting to happen) and you want to know which it is!! I don't want to freak you out but I do want to alarm you enough to get it checked out.

I'm a runner and I've never had this problem. This is not normal.

    Keep us posted.

    Peace,

Well, first of all, i practically never use salt AT ALL. Not on anythiing. I have not even a glimpse of a craving for it either. Secondly, i'm a 22 year old MALE, so that'll throw out the birth control pills idea. LOL.
However, i almost was "forced" (though not the way it sounds) to take "allergy" medication most of my life. And that was mainly a thing where my mother as a young girl faced some suffering with her allergies and wasn't able to get the medication that she needed to relieve her symptoms. So because of that, she has a passion for medication and never wants to imagine seeing her children suffering the same way that she did.
So due to that, i basically was on meds for years. I'm sure some of that garbage has contributed to many of my reoccuring detox symptoms including this sinus problem that i have.
I agree that i should probably get it checked out. I just don't wanna go to the "wrong" kinda doctor who's just gonna look at me with those machines and then prescribe some drugs. And then i'll have to ask him or her for an alternative cure and they won't know what to tell me. Meanwhile i'm the one paying them for the visit. You know.

    Universal,
You don't have to take medications if you don't want. However, you do want the doctor to rule out really big problems. Also, lots of medication (not just BC pills) can raise blood pressure. Just make sure it's not a serious issue. If the doc determines that it's just your sinuses then you can go from there.

Universal, as an athlete, you need to restore your mineral balance (especially as a runner); you need electrolytes, sodium.
Consider getting some, whether you choose through vegetables, like celery, or sprinkling your food with a good-quality salt, such as celtic.

If you were not an athlete, depleting your stores, you would probably be able to get all you need through food.

As well, I have found green smoothies *extremely* beneficial; I don't know what I'd do without them.

    Best to you.

    :)

    Peace Jaurequi,

Thanks for that input. That makes sense with the electrolytes and how to obtain them.

What kind of green smoothies do you make, by the way??

Peace to you as well, thanks,

Universal, I vary my green smoothies, but for my base, there is always kale (I like the dark dinosaur kale - straight leaves but very bumpy and collards at least. Then I add whatever looks good at the market. I choose bok choy because of its high calcium content, parsley sometimes, dark green leaf cabbages, etc; and, of course, fruit. I don't require a lot of fruit anymore; I find I can stuff my vitamix to the top with greens and use only 1/2 C fruit. sometimes I add stevia with bitter fruits. But, everyone adjusts the fruit to their preference.

What I have noticed, is that when I skip green smoothies, within a day or two, I will have massive carb cravings. This leads to bingeing on fruit. Now, that may not be the worst thing in the world :), but, in my opinion, bingeing is a negative symptom and not optimal, whether it's raw, vegan, or anything else. It is a sign of something wrong. I can put away a LOT of fruit, but bingeing is a whole other issue -- not good.

The greens, basically, balance me. Totally. I love them, lol. I also get great sustained energy all day. It's like a shot of espresso without the eventual crash :)

Do you have a good blender? Give them a week -- I bet you'll feel the difference even sooner.

So how's the headache? Not sure if the electrolytes are the cause of your particular headache, but this type of imbalance can wreak havoc on many different levels.
Here's hoping you find the root of the problem :)

    Best,

    Peace,

Yes i do have a blender. It works very well also.
I think that's what i'll do. Make a concentrated effort to make at least 1-2 green smoothies a day for a week, and see how it works out. Thanks for the info.

To find out if it is a sinus headache (ie blocked sinus, causing preasure in the sinus passages), bend over at the waist forward, if it hurts even more, it is a sinus headache, a regular headache will hurt no more or less when you bend over forward.

This at least will tell you what is behind it.
