    Default I need an advice

    Hello!
I'm new here. I've been browsing tons of forums for an idea of what to do. I was laid off from my job about 3 month ago. I've been looking for a job since then, but did not even get a single interview. I worked as a web designer for a publishing company for the last 5 years. Looks like www.rawfoodtalk.com is an active forum with active members and may be someone has some experience working as a freelance web designer. May be "Raw Teen Young Adult Talk" category is not the most appropriate for this question, but I want to try anyways to get some opinions before I go ahead with my life. I'm wondering if it is possible in the current economy to find work for a freelance web designer and make enough to pay for rent and groceries. I was able to find a small project on craigslist and I developed a website for a company. It was a small project and took me only a week to complete. I got paid $800 for 1 week of work which is not bad. Please people give me some ideas. I have 2 kids and my wife is out of work as well. Thank you in advance.

i think you could make money doing that, for sure. it may also be beneficial to know and have some SEO skills and web marketing skills available.. and you or your wife may also look into freelance writing, because there are people that do that full time as well.

in regards to your skills as a web designer, you might try calling small car dealerships and other small businesses in your area and tell them you can build them a nice, professional website and that can potentially help them find some more customers online. i built a website for a small dealership outside of town, and got 400.00 for it... pretty much all i did was use wordpress and add a gallery & fix it up how they asked me to. they were so happy that they still contact me today to update their images and post things on the website for them (i offered to train them how to do it, but they are very busy & don't want to learn).. they now want me to work on some stuff for them for advertisements (which is another service you can offer, if you are decent with photoshop!)

so hope that helps. :) good luck to you & your wife! i hope you guys will find something ASAP!

My son is a industrial graphic designer. He downloaded craigspalfree website. It gives you access to jobs all over the place. He sees, offers, bids, shows samples and gets jobs. He does real well with it.

Best to you. I find if I disappear "this economy" then abundance comes. Scarcity brings more scarcity. Thoughts of abundance brings that.

We all want to do what we love to make our living. Your field has earning potential for sure.

think about how many people need websites now! i agree with focusing on the positive, turn off the news and ignore all "the economy" brainwashing.

even if it is true about the bad economy, that only means more people starting small businesses who need to hire you for their websites!
