Smile raw, but cheating a bit!

    Hi everyone,
I'm Gina. I've been 90% raw since the beginning of the year.
I've been doing yearly detoxes in Thailand for the last 3 years, where you fast for 7 days and do daily colonics.
I have Systemic Lupus, which manifests as very bad arthritis, so i have decided to take my health in hand!
I took a raw food class in Thailand, and decided to take the plunge this year.
My only reservations were that I was a HUGE carnivore, and sugar junkie.
It was quite easy to go raw straight after my last detox, as I hadn't eaten for a week anyway, and after going to Juliano's raw food restaurant in LA where I'm based, and tasting the raw chocolate cheesecake, I knew my sugar cravings would be satisfied!
I travel alot as part of my job, and I've been forced to cheat.
In Sweden, the thought of cold salads every day in -6 temperatures did not appeal, so I did have steamed fish and salads.
I love learning all the new recipes and I'm converting people via my facebook!
My arthritis symptoms have improved so much since I've gone raw, and I'm hoping that soon, I'll be able to cure myself of Lupus!

That's great that you have seen an improvement in health. I find raw desserts really satisfy my sugar tooth.

Good luck moving to 100% raw. You may want to start a thread to see how others who travel for work are able to stay raw.

    Oh me too, me too!

My arthritis symptoms have pretty much gone away, and I have amazing flexibility now on a raw diet!

My son's grandmother has lupus (she's my ex partner's mum) I wish she would look at raw for helping her, but at least she has just started eating more vegetarian and lower fat, this is amazing for her as she too is a huge carnivore and she also has a bunch of other conditions.

    Good luck!

That's rawsome! thank you for sharing your story. Both my mother, and her mother have lupus, I haven't had the test done to see if I'm a carrier, but I wondered if a high raw diet would at least alleive most symptoms.

I wish I could convince my family to eat better too, my mom has had 2 major back surgeries and is on more medications that I can count. She spends half her life doped up on pain meds and in bed.

Don't look at it as cheating...but that you are doing more and more to be the healthy person you are :)

There are plenty of threads here to illustrate the negative energy you use beating yourself up about NOT doing this a certain way.
