    Default Chick peas/Garbanzos ?

I have a recipe for raw hummus, so I'm sprouting some. I soaked for 24 hrs and it's been 2 days for sprouting, and so far only 1/8 have sprouted. Anyone know how long it takes? Should I wait until every one of them has the little white shoot? I don't want to eat them to soon and get a tummy ache.

I sprout chickpeas a lot. I usually only soak them overnight. I eat them on the third day.

I'm not sure if yours are not sprouting because you soaked them too long or if they were mostly 'dead' when you bought them. Did you buy them at a place where there is a good turn over of beans? That usually means they are fresh.

I bought them at a regular grocery store...so who knows, if the turnover is good. Do you think they are safe to eat? Or should I just trash them since they might be dead?

I'm having the same issue with some chick peas. I soaked them over night and now it's the third day and they're just barely starting to sprout. I put some lentils on the same evening and they've sprouted like crazy!

They may be old and never sprout. If I were you, I would sort through them and use only the ones that sprouted.
