    Default Binging!

hey everyone, i'm new to this forum. alittle about me, i'm 21 and i was a raw food vegan last year around this time. it was amazing. i was the happiest i've ever been, my skin was great, i looked better than ever before, had alot of energy and was overall very just content with everything. when i was a raw food vegan last year however i used to drive to this health food deli that prepared raw living food daily so i would just buy it there and have fruit and vegetable juices. however since then i've broken my raw food diet and now i live in brooklyn where i have to prepare my own food. i just started my raw food diet again after eating junk for the past months. i've been eating so much like crazy. is this normal? i'm always craving sweets and fats, which i satisfy with fruit and avocados. i gained 6 pounds (i'm not exaggerating) in the past three days. i've been eating 95 percent raw food and the other 5 percent has been completely vegan. but i've been eating massive amounts of raw food. i had 10 oranges, a large bag of clementines, 5 avocados, so much lettuce. i can't believe how much i'm eating. will this eventually go away on it's own? is it just cause my body is used to eating junk food? if not, how do i eat normally? i'm always hungry now thank you for the help. sorry this post was long.

Maybe your body has been starved for nutrients and now that you are eating live foods again it recognizes the nutrients and wants them ?
If thats the situation maybe when your internal stores are stocked up again your ravenous appetite will subside ?

Have you read Alissa's book.....there's a section that talks about what several people ate when they first went raw and then what they usually eat after they have been raw for awhile. It's very interesting. Also there are sections that help you know how to eat raw and get all the vitamins and minerals your body needs. It's a very worthwhile book.

When I go off raw and go back on it I eat sooooo much raw that it empties my pocket book. But it tapers off after a few days or weeks.

The longer you're raw the less food you normally require. This is why most make heavier meals rather than just eat produce on it's own because it tends to fill you up more. Liquid meals like smoothies and soups are especially helpful.

sounds pretty normal for a cold turkey withdrawal to me....like your body is craving the old stuff, you keep giving it raw but it is on a mission for junk so it is going to eat until you find it....msg/processed sugar/additives that are all really addictive
so like someone quitting smoking or other drugs, your body wants what it wants and keeps thinking it is going to come through the mouth

forget about the food you will stabalize. but some detox will help. sauna/detox tea etc........ in the meantime, go outside, breath life in, work-out, go to a movie, live life besides just the food channel

    best!

I'm really glad I read this thread because I've been wanting to go 100% for a long time but I do get those binging/hunger phases, now I know that if I just stick to it for a few days they will go away! (possibly) Thanks!

    Hi Bunnymachine,

I am a Recovering anorexic/bulemic. I have not starved or purged in over 14 years. Because, I won't purge my binges are not what they used to be even raw. I'm sure you'll find that true for you also.
When I first went raw I did eat alot it seemed. Also, when I fall off the raw cart and get back on I will tend to eat more.........searching for that full feeling. I think also.....at times I am not drinking enough water. So, drink lots of water. Alot of times we think we are hungry and we are actually thirsty. Searching for water through food. So drink up!
Bingeing for me is usually more emotional then physical. If you can find or make friends that have the same issues and are working on getting better that can help to talk to other women for support. For me though I need to talk with women who are working on not binging instead of those acting out............that be a trigger...ya know?
I wish you Strength and endurance on your Raw journey.

IMO, I think that five avocados in one day is too much fat. If you are eating mostly raw but eating a lot of fat I think it will make you feel groggy and cause your body to store fat. You are probably not using up enough energy that you are taking in. Try exercising at least half an hour 5 days a week, preferably every day. Get some fresh air, enjoy some hobbies, take your mind off food. Eat conciously, if you are genuinely hungry, then this overeating should subside in the coming weeks as your body will have more than enough nutrients.

I know how you feel btw, even when I go raw, I still tend to overeat sometimes, it's either that or too little, I increase my exercise, and eat consiously and concentrate on my emotions, they are often the one's causing me to eat. It's as though I can't be just by myself.. But I am getting a hold on it now. I do not want this to make me over weight, so I need to listen to my body, give it what it needs and no more.

    Good luck =)

I agree with everyone here, it's normal when you feed your body with refined sugar, dairy, bakery, etc without proper nutrients and now you eat only fruit, vegetables ,some seeds and nuts full of nutrients your body thinks "WOW What is this, it's sooooo nutrient-ful, I would need more, and fast, because she/he can go back to that crap she/he fed me untill now !"
So yeah. It's ok. I was the same, I remember one day I ate 7 bananas, 5 oranges, 10 apples, 2 cucumbers, 3 carrots, few cups of Dates and cup of almonds.

And I don't eat avocados.. I get my fat from occasional nuts, I eat almonds every Sunday, a cup.
