EPPP - Thank you sooo much for sharing your what you did.
I am a HUGE fan of exploring inexpensive ways to these things.. especially for the sake of folks of modest means. Blending wheatgrass is a viable alternative to expensive juicers, or relatively inexpensive manual juicers (which still run around $60 for anything well-constructed, unless you go used).
Also, I am not one to major on minors as far as spending 500% more for a 5% better juice. The main burden of this thread is twofold:
1) To make the process of deciding easier for others.
2) To determine which juicers are the most durable, in spite of some misleading motor specs and getting dazzled by gadgetry. In a word - what are basically the best investments in juicers, in terms of substance.. in hardware quality?
This leads to a very important question. When you say "juicing by blending", are you talking about blending it, then basically just drinking it?
I didn't see anything in what you shared about separating the juice from the pulp.
If you are referring simply to blended drinks, these would be smoothies.
In fairness to you, these might, in the looser sense of "juice", be thought of as pulpy juice. That's okay, and I LOVVVVVE smoothies.
But the terms must be distinguished for a very major reason, due to application.
Technically speaking, "juice" is what is extracted from the pulp.
This is similar (tho not the same) as broth derived from a foodstuff, or tea from an herb.
One reason this is so important is because of faster absorption into the bloodstream, without the hindrance or digestive burden of dealing with pulp. This has therapeutic advantage, as well as the simple matter of personal taste.
But, more importantly, in the ancient practice of fasting, the difference is far more manifest. By nature and general definition, fasting means the cessation of all solid food, i.e. anything with pulp in it. Once this happens, the peristaltic motion of the large intestine stops. After 3 days or so, "hunger" pangs stop (natural stomach contractions), and the body enjoys a nice break. During this time, the energies are expended elsewhere, to remove toxins, expedite cellular repair, and so forth.
Natural diet accomplishes cleansing too. There will never be a conflict between these two approaches because they are really one in purpose and direction. The difference is that fasting (done responsibly) accomplishes this quicker. It is also a great tool in emergency situations when things must happen fast. Fasting is not a substitute for natural diet, but rather a wonderful compliment to it.
Some have a strong aversion to fasting while others naturally gravitate to it. All is okay here. I would only point out that fasting becomes more critical as you get older, as various toxins, pollutants & debris have had more time to accumulate in the vital organs and tissues. (Most of us were raised on a s.a.d. diet).
Blessings,
brother bear

The Juicers Most Mentioned When You Do A Forum Search
Main Players:
500+ - Champion
377 - Omega
305 - Green Star
185 - Breville
114 - Samson
87 - Norwalk
59 - Jack La Lane
37 - Solo Star
This is a very rough result. To minimize confusion/dilution of count (i.e. Green Star vs. green beans) I kept this search limited to the "Juicing, Sprouting, and Organic Gardening" forum.

The Top Light-Heavyweight Household Juicer (Single Auger)
- "Egads!"
HERCULES: Weighing in at 19 lbs, with a 1/4 HP motor.

Hercules - Lion of Olympus - Son of Great Zeus!
Though lighter, Herc has rough parity with Thor and The Thing in hand to hand combat.
Star Solo II is made by Tribest - Maker also of Green Star.
.gif)
List Price: $299
Market: $239 up
Craigslist: $175 (Used)
Note: The spec, marketed as - "1/4 (4 hp equivalent with gear reduction)"..
The motor itself is 1/4 HP. The 4 hp number comes as a result of mechanical advantage, accomplished by a lower gear. Though a potentially misleading spec, 1/4 hp is still pretty serious bludgeoning power!

Well, blending and straining is indeed an option! I won't put grass in my Champion because it bogs. It works, but I don't want to overdo it. Blending is an excellent option here! Or possibly chopping up the grass in small segments before going in Juicer. This is where units like the Green Star (upper model) really shine.
So then the natural question arises..
Why don't we all just use blenders?
This has been debated before.
While not crazy about debates, here's some possible answers:
1) Quantity and Speed - Juicing goes a lot faster in an actual juicer for those who wish to make large quantities. Plus, no need to strain, generally speaking.
2) By straining, you won't get ALL the juice out of the pulp. A minor consideration, to be sure. The best juicers will extract more from the pulp.
3) Some do not want their juices diluted. Another minor consideration, but it still matters to some.
4) The need for a New Toy, lol - the biggest, baddest mega-beast juicer on the block.
(Maybe it's a guy thing, lol).
I'm sure there are other reasons.. lol.
P.S. - I know some Fasting Bandits who would LOVE to get their paws on your Breville! LOL.
