    Default Sprouting Help Please

Sprouting is overwhelming. Could anyone give me some good info to read on starting my sprouting. I have read some things on here and a few things I have googled, but I need a beginners sprouting site, something to walk me step by step and hold my hand while I learn. If I am going to be raw, I am going to learn to sprout my own stuff. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

    Thanks,

    Marshall

take a look on youtube. There are some good videos there and thesproutpeople.com do good guides and vids.

Start off with small amounts and only a few different types of seeds. When you get the whole thing straight in your head, you can then grow more types and bigger quantities.

Lentils, quinoa and buckwheat are three easy ones.

Thanks Mystic! I was hoping for a specific website, like you gave. I have been all over youtube, I am just wanting something a little better that I can read. Again, thanks so much.

    It's easy.

You need a glass jar, a rubber band, and some sort of screen. I have used cheesecloth, or pantyhose (just buy the cheap kind that come in the little egg thing and wash them with some natural soap. Then cut them into little squares big enough to be stretched over the top of your jar).

Then you get the stuff you want to sprout. I like to do a couple tablespoons of lentils at a time, it's what works for how much we consume on our salads. Put them in the jar, cover with the cloth and secure with the rubber band. Then rinse them a few times just to get them cleaner, then fill to cover with water and let soak overnight.

In the morning, dump out the water and rinse. From there, just give them a good rinse morning and night, and in the meantime leave them on a windowsill where they can get some sun. Continue this process every day and watch as they grow. Then when they get to where you want, take them out and eat them (I usually wait til mine have decent sized tails and are just starting to sprout little leaves).

Usually once I'm two days or so into the sprouting process, I start another jar soaking, that way I have a continual flow of sprouts that are ready to eat.

    :) Hope that helps!

Thanks Climbing. I will try that method. I am doing as much research as possible. I want this to be a way of life and not just a fashion. I love to cook and grow things so this will help keep me occupied.

Happy to know there are some raw foodies out that way. :) Everyone I knew growing up lived on Taco Bell, lol.
