Danny, the reason why the body takes longer to separate the fiber from the nutrients is a natural regulatory function that keeps blood sugar at a healthy level. Constant juicing without the fiber can have a negative effect on insulin production and lead to diabetes. Juice in moderation.

Yes, add pulp back in or use a supplemental fiber. Contrary to many of the posts here, the reason for juicing is not specifically to remove the pulp, as if the pulp were some annoying toxin. The purpose of juicing is to break down the foods at such a level so as to release nutrients that could not be accessed through normal chewing. Fiber will keep your blood sugar levels normal when you juice and deter any ill effects on your insulin production that could lead to diabetes.

Ive been reading a book by Norman Walker he recommends juices because all of the toxin stick to the fiber. The cells are burst open and the enzyme and nutrients are released into the juice. The toxins stay with the pulp. So I would say no don't add the pulp back in according to what I have read. Im juice fasting and my blood sugar levels stay constant. I get no ups or downs in that way. There are some diabetics that juice fast but if you have concerns check with your doctor.

Dave the raw food trucker HAD type II diabetes and did an extended juice fast. He no longer has type II or any sign of his colon cancer. I think if you are on a sad diet and want to juice to get your health back its wonderful. Also you can watch Fat Sick and Nearly dead. It is a great movie. I hope this helps.

Tracey, if you use organic veggies and fruit, you shouldn't need to worry so much about toxins. My information comes from a practicing nurse of 10 yrs who is also a juicer. I am typically wary of advice from reps. of Western medicine, but he is a very good friend, and maybe a little more viable source than Dave the raw food trucker.

Not sure I follow you karensamjeff. You juice, don't add pulp back, replace pulp with fiber like psyllium, add pulp back in smoothie, organic veggies and fruit aren't toxic because their organic.

Like all forums one looks for some concrete ideas and comes up with a lot of disconnected ones. So, from the posts on this subject, it looks to me as though you can juice and that juice is easily absorbed into the body (good). Juice only has no fiber (bad). Smoothies have juice and fiber (good). Combination of juicing and smoothies is best.

By the way, fruit and veggies may say organic but don't forget, unless you wash them thoroughly you could introduce bacteria thathas accumulated on the cutting board, the knife you use to cut them etc.

The best way? JUICE IN MODERATION

I don't like to add the pulp back in because the stuff immediately smells rancid, but I stir in some psyllium husks or ground flax seed as a supplement. Veggies and fruits have their share of sugars, and when you remove the pulp (fiber) you get "sugar spikes" which can affect your insulin production. Do it on a consistent basis, and you could be on the road to diabetes. Especially dangerous for those who already have diabetes or are predisposed for type 2. And for the person who said it's normal not to have a BM for four days during a juice fast, you need to visit a doctor and get that verified before you start spreading harmful misinformation.
No it's true. During a juice fast it is normal not to go for four days if you've been on a long fast. I'm on a 45 day juice fast and the need to go lessens as your bowels get cleansed and toxins released... which is the point of the fast. If there's no fiber going in, there's none coming out... eventually. Also your body burns up residual bits left in your digestive system as fuel, as well as scarring and other toxins that don't belong there, they don't necessarily get expelled via your digestive tract. Also if one does a bowel cleanse with magnesium oxide or enemas before and during the fast, then it gets pretty clean (or rather empty) in there.

As for the juicing/pulp issue, I usually (when not fasting) juice my vegetables as they take a long time to digest and blend my fruits as they only take 20 minutes to digest... well most do anyway. I don't like juicing too much fruit because of the high sugar content as I'm prone to getting candida if I do. Melons take around 10 minutes, bananas and mangoes about an hour but vegetables can take up to two hours. Even if I have a salad or a vegetable meal, I usually have a vegetable juice ten minutes before eating my meal to get the benefit of the nutrients and live enzymes.

I generally strain my juice after juicing. There is still a little pulp but only very fine.

If I want to have lots of fibre in my "drink" then I would make a smoothie.

I received a juicer for Christmas and my husband and I began juicing for breakfast and lunch this morning. We were wondering whether we should add some of the pulp back into the juice in order to get more fiber. If I tried to make a smoothie with a carrot or beet, it would kill my old blender. I'd rather not have to spend more money on a new blender after just getting a new juicer. Is there any health reason not to add back some of the pulp for fiber if using organic fruits/vegetables...not just because you don't like it?

You can mix the pulp in with some sprouted quinoa for a sort of fruity, fake oatmeal type breakfast meal.

You can always put the pulp and the juice into a smoothie you are making I suppose if you want to spare your blender the worst excesses of motor-killing activity but I think even my blender would cope if I added some water and diced the carrots and beets up small-ish to start with. I never do because I don't really like smoothies much.

Thumbs up Thought this was quite interesting...

    JUICING vs. BLENDING * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

    *

TO JUICE OR NOT TO JUICE, THAT IS THE QUESTION !

Is Juicing as good as “they” say it is?

Is Juicing a clever marketing hype to sell a machine?

Is Juicing better than Blending or is Blending better than Juicing?

    *

Fruits and vegetables are made up of nutrients, fiber, and water.* Our bodies are designed to consume whole foods and not processed foods.* Each individual part is very important as an integral part of the package.* Two parts without the third is not the ideal way to consume the food.* Juicing takes out the fiber and all of the stage 2 juice that’s in the pulp and dehydrating takes out the pristine alkaline structured water.* Juice from a juicer is not whole food - it’s considered processed because the fiber with its phytonutrients has been removed.*

    *

Both juicing and dehydrating are processes that seem like a good idea but in reality are very wasteful of valuable ingredients of a food not to mention the amount of time required for the juicing or dehydrating process.* Consuming more vitamins and minerals from fruits and vegetables is what we want to stay healthy or regain health so, at first glance, juicing seems to make sense.* We are told that we don’t need the fiber and it’s just there to hold the juice together.* Marketing hype often hides the real truth.* People often make a decision to buy a juicer after hearing only the marketing hype and not looking into the whole truth and the other options.* Blending is an option that is backed up by science which says whole foods are the healthiest way to eat.*

    *

Juicers are a multibillion dollar industry.* As with any business, you will get the marketing hype and “facts” that may not include the whole truth.* The whole truth is that whole foods are the healthiest things to eat.* Nature intended us to eat whole foods not only part of a food.*

    *

Juicer promoters talk about how quickly the juice gets into the blood stream leading you to believe it’s a good thing, not realizing that it gets into the blood stream too quickly.* Juice will spike your blood sugar and cause other problems the body has to then deal with.* It can be counter-productive and do more damage than good.* The fiber allows the nutrients to enter the blood stream at the perfect speed - not too fast and not too slow.* The body will also process the 2nd stage juice that is bound up in the pulp.

    *

You will hear a lot of testimonies from people who use juicers about how they were healed of health problems.* In reality, they were probably healed because along with the juicing they stopped consuming the kinds of foods that promote disease - meat, dairy, and processed foods.* Their health would be much better and regained much quicker with whole foods.

    *

The pulp or fiber in fruits and vegetables acts like a broom inside our digestive tract.* It’s a very critical part of the digestive process.* Without the pulp, the system slows down and can even stall - constipation.* If you drink juice you then have to get your fiber elsewhere so why not blend everything together and eat whole foods.*

    *

It’s always better to eat whole foods.* The combination of water, fiber, nutrients and phytochemicals is always perfect for what our bodies were designed to eat.* The fiber that is discarded in juicing helps to slow down the absorption of sugar into the blood.* Juice will cause the blood sugar to rise just like it does with a can of soda, especially the new hybrid carrots with their unnaturally high sugar content.* The reason people love carrot juice is because it is feeding their sugar addiction but in reality they are just trading one sugar drink for another.*

    *

We can easily eat a few carrots at a time and be satisfied.* However, a glass of carrot juice can contain a pound or more of carrots. How long would it take to eat a pound of carrots? * Our bodies don’t need that flood of excess nutrients.* We have a tendency to believe if a little is good then a lot must be better.* So with juicing, we get way too much sugar, way to fast and even though our standard American diet is fiber poor anyway, we thrown away something our bodies desperately needs.* Fiber is actually a nutrient that we need.* Overall, juicing doesn’t make much sense when you look at all the facts.* *

    *

Juicing gives us incomplete nutrition from a carrot or anything else we might juice because juicing wastes a lot of the nutrients that are trapped in the fiber.* Blending with a powerful blender will break up the fiber and when the fiber is broken up at the cellular level, it releases the phytochemicals that were bound up in it.* These phytochemicals aren’t released from the pulp when put through a juicer.* They remain in the pulp that is thrown away.*

    *

We should consume whole foods because every part of a whole food is needed for proper assimilation of the nutrients.* The fiber and the phytochemicals that are bound up in it are very important to be consumed together.* The Creator of our bodies also created the food that was designed to nourish that body.* He knew exactly what we needed to maintain vibrant health.* He created whole foods for a reason.*

    *

The blending process does, more efficiently and quickly, what our teeth are designed to do.* Chewing is a very important part of eating.* Most of us take a bite of something, chew a few times, and then swallow mostly chunky food.* Studies have shown that those who live to be over 120+ years old spend many hours eating.* They will take many hours to eat one apple.* Their teeth grind the food up and all the stage 2 juice is released from the food - something that the stomach is not designed to do.* The expression, “drink your food and chew your drink” makes a lot of sense.*

    *

Juicing seems to be an excuse for some people to justify continuing to eat junk food or their calorie dense, high fat, nutrient light - “comfort foods”.* They think a little bit of good will balance out the bad.*

    *

With more to think about, you can now make a more intelligent decision about whether to juice or blend.

    Remember, WHOLE FOODS RULE!

Juicing can be problematic if you juice high sugar foods like fruit or carrots, I don't recommend doing so. However, there are many very good reasons to juice certain foods.

Juicer promoters talk about how quickly the juice gets into the blood stream leading you to believe it’s a good thing, not realizing that it gets into the blood stream too quickly.* Juice will spike your blood sugar and cause other problems the body has to then deal with.* It can be counter-productive and do more damage than good.* The fiber allows the nutrients to enter the blood stream at the perfect speed - not too fast and not too slow.
As I said above, that's only problematic if you are juicing foods with high sugar content or glycemic index. Otherwise, juicing can be very beneficial because you are not consuming the fiber. Which brings me to

Okay, that's just dead wrong. Juicing promotes healing and detoxification much much faster then s solid raw food diet because your body is spared from using the massive amounts of energy necessary to digest food that still has the fiber. Digestion actually constitutes a very large amount of the total energy we use on a daily basis. Water fasting causes even faster detoxifying, to the point that it's dangerous to go from SAD to a prolonged water fast. Juice fasting is much better because it is a slower detoxification process then water fasting, and you are loading your body with readily available vitamins, minerals, enzymes and other phytonutrients. Also, very few people will be quickly healed just from stopping eating junk food, becuase they have to deal with the loads of junk that is stuck in their body and get rid of it...no longer adding to the problem is only half the process. Juice fasting is the best way to solve this.

Blending with a powerful blender will break up the fiber and when the fiber is broken up at the cellular level, it releases the phytochemicals that were bound up in it.* These phytochemicals aren’t released from the pulp when put through a juicer.* They remain in the pulp that is thrown away.*
Blending also tends to destroy many of the nutrients in the foods you blend, whereas a good-quality manual masticating juicer doesn't have that problem.

The blending process does, more efficiently and quickly, what our teeth are designed to do.
And a good juicer does it even better, with less nutrient loss.

They will take many hours to eat one apple.
I'm sorry, but that statement is absurd. I personally chew apples until they are almost completely liquid, and it takes me about 15 minutes to eat a large apple (and most people would probably think that that is "extreme").

Juicing seems to be an excuse for some people to justify continuing to eat junk food or their calorie dense, high fat, nutrient light - “comfort foods”.* They think a little bit of good will balance out the bad.*
We'e pretty much all raw vegans here, so that has no relevance to us.

Both juicing and blending have their uses - although I think juicing is superior to blending - but you shouldn't say that juicing is "unhealthy" because the fiber is removed. I would never juice fruits (although I know many people do), but greens like alfalfa sprouts, sunflower greens, cereal grasses, etc have very very low levels of sugar and very high levels of chlorophyll and amino acids, so there is absolutely no blood sugar problem with these juices even if you drank them to the point of feeling bloated (although the detox would be nasty - hehe).

Use Pulp on same day . Don't freeze it.
