Default Nutrional value of raw plant food

Regular normal fruits like orange, apple, banana are totally deficient in minerals
Greens are also deficient in minerals but if u eat 5 lbs its ok.

I looked on a nutrional calculator and it seems like that all regular supermarket food is totally deficient in minerals and trace minerals.

Wild plants grow near or underneath of trees which make the soil much richer in minerals, because they drop their leafes every year and soak minerals from 10 or 20 meters under the ground in its leafes.

High quality organic green food comes close to the mineral amount which is recommend of you eat very much of it.

    Solutions would be:

    seasalt, other natural salts
organic, much, and big variety of dark veggies
big variety of fatty fruits, nuts and seeds
wild food that grows on or underneath of trees
    super foods

With the supermarket raw food, also if its organic, u dont come even close to the minerals u need. Ok if u buy the best there is and eat tons of greens and a H U G E variety. But with the standard fruits and veggies u get in the standard amount u get not enough minerals.

I am concerned about minerals. It would be not my first mineral deficiency(fruit diet for months)

Thanks for posting that chart. I've been tired a lot lately. I don't think I'm eating right even though it's all raw.

I'm not going to look at all of this information because I can't afford to go that route. It would just make me go back to eating SAD if I got too discouraged.

If all you say is true then people who cook the life out of their food should be dead, eh?

Tim VanOrden is a world-class 40-year old athlete/tower-runner who eats all raw from the grocery store.

    That's the good news.

Even when we buy organic fruit and vegetables, they often grown on soil that is already depleted.

Personally, I take super blue green algae supplement that is rich in essential vitamins, amino acids, and all essential minerals and trace minerals (calcium, zinc, sodium, silicon, potassium, phosphorus, nickel, magnesium, iron, iodine, fluoride, copper, chloride, calcium, boron, etc).

Nature's oldest and best food, in my personal opinion.

You're welcome. Personally, I prefer farmers' markets where I can get fresher foods yet, some, in colder areas don't have this option at times.

Another thing, rather than resorting to expensive "supplements" is sprouting. So easy, so full of nutrients, so fresh.. can't really beat 'em.

You might wish to listen to my interview with Tim. He's been here a couple of times for my meetups. An amazing, vibrant, good looking man. He came over the first time after doing a tower run and the next day did a trail run. At 40, he's got the most amazing energy.

Revvell, how big is a serving of sprouts compared to a serving of greens? Curious.

Ya got me! What are we comparing? Lettuce or kale or collards to what? Sunflower, alfalfa or clover? A serving to me is however much I feel to eat at the time.

Ever see a bag of chips? One serving = 10 chips? Um, more like one serving = one bag.

    What's a serving? I am SO confused!

Maybe compared to a plate of spinach. I know it's hard to define.

Why does primates eat 125 different foods every year and a high amount of leafes? Definitly for a reason. We should always look for possibilities to get a richer amount of minerals. It doesnt mean that cooked food is perfect to get minerals, but it means that its not very hard to get a mineral deficieny with raw food - if u dont watch out.

But i would like to get more information to that specific subject. People who live for decades healthy on raw food would have that kind of information. They could explain what to eat (to get more minerals) and why. There should be a book about that subject. Its hard to eat the mineral amout which is recommend with ordinairy raw food.

There are plenty of books on the subject and no, it's pretty hard to become mineral deficient on a raw food diet if people aren't deficient on a cooked food diet (although, I'm thinking they are deficient in ALL nutrients).

Primates eat a wide variety of leafy greens because that's what they do all day. Their work is to eat, sleep, get up and do it again. They don't go someplace and work for 8 hours in un-natural environments.

For us, we've got fruit, greens, veggies, seeds and nuts.

I'm curious. People come here and their main focus is protein OR calcium OR one particular thing. Yours seems to be minerals. Why them? Why not focus on eating a varied food program of fresh, organic as possible, whole foods?

Or, do the research and tell us what you've found as far as how TO get all these things you're afraid of not getting? Victoria Boutenko has done a great job of researching health as has Gabriel Cousens and many others. They write the book, they share their knowledge and their experiences.

There are plenty of raw food advocates who've been doing it for decades.

Unless we are eating almost all wild foods and sprouted foods, then we are all mineral deficient. Modern food crops are bred to take up less minerals so that they don't spoil quickly. Also, our soils are mineral deficient because it has been a long time since the last glaciers covered the planet, see www.remineralize.org .
Raw foodists are way less mineral deficient than SAD eaters. SAD eaters cook all of the remaining minerals away. So by going raw you already are getting remineralized, though not fully. You do the best you can :) .
I have a lot of strategies for getting extra minerals. For one, I buy organic locally grown foods at the farmer's market. Even now, in November, in Connecticut, I am able to get apples, pumpkin, pears, cauliflower, squashes, collards, kale and lettuce. I should be able to get lettuce, parsnips and cabbage grown under a cold frame through the winter. Also, I sprout, so I get really fresh food. I eat foods that haven't been bred and tampered with by man, such as seaweeds and algae. I also forage for wild foods; right now I am enjoying tart wild apples, dandelion greens, plantain leaves, and dogwood fruit. When foods are fermented, then the yeasts and bacteria that do the fermenting contribute minerals to the food. Also, fermented foods are pre-digested, so you get all of the minerals without expending any minerals to digest them. I love kombucha, saur kraut, real pickles, miso (in moderation!), and kimchee. I don't do rejuvelac because if you make it badly, you could get sick, but that also is an option. Lastly, and most importantly, I am really, really into organic gardening. My parents have an acre of property. Right now I garden a plot of it, I hope to expand the garden to the entire acre. I treat my soil really well, with lots of rock dust, manure from organic farms, compost, composted seaweed, and sea water. This way, I can grow the most mineral rich foods on the planet :) .
~I am only interested in results. If something works, then an explanation is really just an intellectual exercise. ~
